Analyze Weight?

Is there somewhere in the Analyze's that I can get a weight estimate for a part? Simple, just a 34.5" OD x 2.5" thick plate.

 

I do realize there are many from a quick google search, but just curious if MC can do this calc for me?

I don't "think" MCAM can do it.

 

Solidworks can but part of the equation is based on the kind of material

If your part is a solid you can analyze the volume where when a density is added will calculate the mass (weight)

Here is the output of the dimensions you stated with a density of .002

You need to analyze area/volume solid properties and

punch in density figure.

 

its works like solid works

 

Although I cant get it to work when

i create solid from surfs

We used it a lot to find volume of stamping dies and it was pretty close but not near as much fun as watching an engineer fill beakers and pour in to a die and then try to get all the water out LOL

Weight is pretty close as well as long as you know the specific density for the material .281 or so for steel

This plate is a flame cut of 4130 material.

 

Karl, I did find the analyze solid volume and got the same mass as you, but that doesn't really mean anything since I am guessing this plate weighs close to 700 lbs. Is there a standard for the density to get it closer? Oh, btw Karl, you never sent me that Integrex stuff =]

 

Columbo, I cannot use that here, unfortunatly. I can't install programs at all since our system is locked down. But thanks anyways.

 

Todd, You think that density would work similarly to what I am looking for? I tried and it came out to 656 lbs....seems about right.

We use .283 for the calculating the weight of 4140. I would imagine 4130 would be very similar. Using this for the density, we come pretty close. I'm pretty sure this number just came from the machinery handbook. (24th edition Pg. 356)

Use the verify option as already stated in here and I use http://www.matweb.com/index.asp?ckck=1 Matweb to get the density numbers I need.

I use a .28 density factor for steel. It probably isn't exact but it will be close. You might be able to find it in the steel quote, steel certs or shipper if you have access to them.
