Lathe rapid to Z0

When creating a rough toolpath in lathe x2, my first move is always to z0 then it backs up and feeds in. Not exactly what I want, and can not find how to stop it. Any help please?

I have found the same problem, if you turn on the "extend contour to stock" the problem goes away. You do need to define your stock for this to work.

Something that I have also found helps is on your lead in/out page (if you are using rough) extend the tool lead in by .1". Or with canned rough, either add .1" to the lead in or define a line at 0. Deg and is .1" long. Works for me.

 

I always define stock, and I always use ref. points cause I don't like it coming that close on X & Z at full rapid. After the ref. point it moves to facing position and chops away nicely.

I usually add the ref. points also. Like a Z1. then the Z.1 prior to feed rate

Not sure why?!? I've tried both of those methods (extend to stock) and the ref point, neither works for me. Still zapping over to Z0, backing up to the lead in amt, then feeding in.

I've looked everywhere, and this is not the way it's supposed to work like this.

Did you define the stock and turn it on

Define your stock in machine group under properties, stock setup, in stock, in properties, define your stock there. Then in your toolpath under rough or finish parameters check "extend contour to stock"

 

Now MC knows where the stock is.

Even with stock properly setup and defined, extended contours, it still goes to zero. Guess i'll live with it...

 

It's bad enough that mastercam crashes every twenty minutes, I dont need to crash my machines too

I've been using Mastercam lathe for a decade

and have never had this problem.

In stock setup what is your tool clearance set at on the lower right?
