Importing Proe Files

Hello, I was wondering if anyone out there is working with Proe models useing Mastercam on a consistant basis. And if they are maybe they could tell me what is the best way to read a Pro Eng model into Mastercam.I am useing iges right know but when ever I need to extend a surface I must first do an untrim to the surface before I can do a surface extend. But when I do this the surfaces are very difficult to trim back up to the way they were orginally in the model. Will an upgrade to Mastercam solids solve this problem and would I need a proe file converter also?

Will Mastercam solids recognize all the features of the proe model and allow me to add or delete features such as holes or extend feature already in the model, and does Mastercam Ver9 lathe support the turning of solids?

Boris,

We are using the pro-e translator from cadcam-e .. if you go to Ver 9 solids there is now a translator built into Mastercam at an added cost. Your reseller can help you with that. The big thing about using a pro e translator as opposed to the iges format is that option to bring in surfaces or solids .. We use the solids option all the time and it works very very well for us .. hope this answers your question ..

I have the Pro/E translator (CNC Software) without the solids option. We import as trimmed surfaces and to date have had no problems. It is forbidden to modify the design model and so as mentioned above, we create manufacturing geometry on different layers. Haven't had experience with Solids (as translated) but a dealer should be able to confirm that you could modify as required (Glenn you should be able to answer...)

The other solid converters do NOT bring in the History Tree. But I'm not sure about the new ProE converter. With the other converters you basically you get a "dumb" solid. It will only have one feature called a solid body, but Mastercam does have a "find features" function that will add fillets and holes only. Adding features will not be a problem, but deleting some features created in ProE might not be as easy. (I posted a similar reply to a thread called Solids.)
