remove old versions

I feel mx2 mr2 sp1 is very stable now which old version should I remove from my computer first ?

Kept all updates since 9.1 mr0105

I have only mr2 sp1 on my computer.

I personaly have no need for any version other then the latest.

I was un-installing old versions. I see 9.1 and all that but I also see MCAMVB and MR0904 that are at least 2G each. Are these old versions or part of X2?

Mr0904... is maint release V9 spet 2004...get rid of it

 

mcamvb... Hmmm by itself or in a sub directory.. you can most likely delete it

Even after an uninstall, you'll have folders left hanging around. I'm surprised to hear they're 2GB though. You can just delete them, assuming you've done the proper uninstall. Typically, they're config files, tool libraries, ops libraries, .vbs files, etc. Nothing that can actually launch the older version.

 

As far as the original question goes, I'm not exactly sure if makes a difference what order you uninstall them in. I've always done them oldest to newest, simply because that's how they were listed in Add-Remove Programs. By version, I always start with add-ons (videos, documentation, etc) then SPs or MRs, etc and work back to the main version.

the old uninstaller did a bad job so after uninstalling the V9 you need to delete the folder in the main dir.

I have folders: McamX

: McamX2 MR1

 

I have the latest mr2 sp1

If I uninstall or even change the name of McamX

my Mc won't start?

I don't know if it is related but when I open X2 now I get an error

 

The following components are missing

MCBitmap.ocx

MCLstCtl.ocx

 

Mastercam cannot start.

 

Did I gunk something up? I've never seent that error before.

V9 uses the same files for the Level Manager, you'll have to do a repair at this time

Yes, I just did a search and come up with the same thing. This may be the wrong time to ask (as the reapir is taking place) but do I need to back up some files to protect my config settings, machine def's and custom toolbars?

In a repair, likely not.

 

But as always any custom files should ALWAYS be backed up

Just a note, if you use roll/unroll you may just want to keep a hold of V9 as this feature does not work correctly in X2-Mr2Sp1

Regarding uninstalling old versions: For some reason when I did a side by side install of the MR2 version, the control definitions were still pointing to the MR1 folder. When I manually copied the machine defs and control defs into the "proper" MR2 folders I was getting errors, so I pointed back to the MR1 folders. If I remove MR1, will the MR2 version that I use now still function correctly? It's too bad Mastercam is not "smart" enough to configure itself correctly and it seems we have to tinker with it after every install!
