solid import and how to remove features

I have a inventor file solid (from customer) that imports with no solid history, just one whole solid

how do I remove features?

there is a pocket in the solid that needs dimensional changes and some of the original pocket is bigger

i need to remove all of these pockets and add the new pocket

any ideas?

I concur! IF you have to change it, the only way really is to make surface, and then make the changes to them. It Sucks!

I know it's better not to re-invent the wheel,

i did send the request for change to the customer, but I may not rec'v the model in time, to machine the pc.

but I totally agree that the customer should change the model, because if for any reason someone ask's/complains, "who authorized this?"

you know how that goes.

better to volley this back over the net

thanks guys

The only way? headscratch.gif

How about using edge curves to create a solid that fills the pocket, then boolean add them together. Then modify the pocket geometry to suit and boolean subtract.

I would be wary of changing a customers model.

Depending on the how the PO is written, if you are required to manufacture to "electronic" data then making any changes may violate the PO. If you are under that agreement and they have made a Rev change, the job may need to be pulled back.

If they don't like that and say that they need the delivery than in the past I have used the option of making the adjustment and sending it to them to sign off on, this way they accept the change to meet the new Rev and you protect your company but keeping to the "electronic" data.

Thad,

I tried that option of filling in the pocket and extruding another pocket.

the pocket is open with tapered walls with the open end thru muliple steps around an od.

kind of hard to explain and i can't seem to paste the image of the pocket

in any case this gives me some options to try

I'll still have to wait on customer approval

thanks

John,

you brought up a very good point, I'll have to check on that

Thad,

I always seem to have problems with the boolean add/remove feature, screw it up more often than not

Just need to use it more often I guess or look at the examples in the book to get a better handle on it
