I revolved the edge and then projected a spline on the Y...then you have a profile of a curve that you can revolve 120 degrees...you can take that curve and put any kind of a top on it you want.

 

 

Like Ocean says, you will need to define the top how you want it...I just left it pointed because there was no data for that area...

No. Revolved is the only way to get a tangical result with 9....in this instance..you might be able to do a coons if you do a lot of definitions with wireframes and then trim it, but revolved is way easier...

 

Start off with defining the revolved curve first. Then cut the scallops in the sides...

Guess I will cut one to see how the material bends.

that will tell me what i need to do with the top.

This is just a play project. Will post a pic when we get back to it.
