Fadal post question

Good morning all,

I am starting to post my first code for Fadals and I keep getting a "Helical too short" error on the machine. Can you guys tell me what the difference is between the format 1 and format 2 fadal posts that come on the installation CD?

the single biggest difference is the E or G54 usage

I figured it was something like that.

I have tried many things to get this older Fadal to take these helical arcs with both of the formatted posts. Short of turning them completely off I am at a loss.

 

I found an old posting where Ron showed how to set up the post to linearize everything less than .002 but that didn't work either.

 

I guess it is time to bug my reseller and try and get the MPmaster Fadal post and see if I have better luck with it.

How do you get either one of these posts to output G54-G59?

 

I have tried them both and they both only output the E work offsets?

Does the machine support this. On some of the older machines this was an option so might need to check that the machine has the capability.

Yes it does support this. After reading some more through the archives I think I am just going to modify the generic MPmaster to get the code I want. I still haven't tracked down the source of the Helical too short errors. For now I am just avoiding helical moves until I have time to play with the arc and tolerance settings in the control def.

the main difference I found is in format 1 the machine always goes to origin first. in format 2 you can do a g92 and start from the current position.

This link explains the difference between Format 1 and Format 2 on a Fadal. I suggest setting your Fadal to Format 2 and using the mpmaster post. The code should be good to go with little or no changes.
