Will X3 include stock recognition?

Maybe I am not using restmill right but I think it is a pain maintaining a bunch of STL CAD files

for stock recognition from previous operations.

I use this quite alot and if you have to make a change early in program it is a major pain to go back through and update all of the STL files.

I have tried using compute from all previous operations before but if you use the WCS it gives you some very strange results. It would be nice to be able to select multiple ops you want to use to calculate instead of just 1 operation or all.

The last time I used Gibbscam a year and a half ago they already had full stock recognition.

Anyone have any tips for a method they use?

I'm with you on this one cobra! I don't mind using a restmill toolpath referencing off an .stl, but i have not been able to use multiple .stl files for multiple restmilling toolpaths. For some reason, whenever I use a second or third .stl file for a second or third restmilling toolpath, it just adds to the orginal .stl model that I used in the first restmilling operation.

My humble opinion:

Most of serious CAM systems in the market already have it. Gibbs, PRO|E, CATIA, UG, Hypermill, etc.

In Pro|E for example, it makes wonders since you can export your machined model into a drafting environment. Awesome for manufaturing documentation, especially for parts with several steps. The whole MFG assembly as well as the cut stock can be detailed.

For me, looks like that CNC Software it is losing terrain release after release disregarding such features.

Although many high-end systems are not easy to use as Mastercam, or even so powerful in some points, in a general overview, things like that use to make a huge difference for companies in a demo and therefore, in the daily tasks.
