Hello all,

I am making a part from a round stock and I would like to make a program the cuts just the stock not air. If I make a normal program it will either machine from my contaiment boundry or from the part. I know I can machine from a STL can some one tell me how I can do this.

Thanks,

Greg

Greg, I have done this in the past with a turned part in the fourth axis. I created a solid of the turned part and saved it as a STL. Then use HST rough rest mill and select the STL file option and the saved STL. The other thing you could do is create a create a "dummy" core rough toolpath using a containment boundary. then ghost that op so it doesn't post. then create the rest mill op based on the previous ghosted op and it will eliminate most of the air cutting.

Doug,

I knew I could do it that way I just couldn't find how to bring in the STL file, I wasn't using the HST Rough Rest.

Thanks.

Thad,

I didn't know that you could trim a Cre Roughing program, I remember using Powermill that if you edited the Z level roughing program that you could expect a crash. You had to make sure that your boundary was drawn right, I thought the same thing for Mastercam.

Thanks.

Greg
