Choppy Contour - PLEASE HELP

so is the 1/2 tool leaveing smooth surfaces? or choppy?

The 1/2 inch tool is leaving it choppy. This is only part of my program. Other places I rough with the 1/2" and I finish with a 1/4" tool and it leaves it choppy as well

If you can, use the 3d contour toolpath to machine the OD sides. I´ve used this sometimes if the 2d profile looks choppy.

John, are the linearization tolerance and filter tabs new for X3 in the 2d contour toolpath? Wouldn't the arc length in a 2d contour be directly related to to the control definition settings? Sounds like he may be using a surfacing toolpath. "the contour toolpath was created off of a face from a solidworks model is there a setting to blen these better?"

Glen, I sent the file using the Zip to Go utility, to your work e-mail. I got a out of office reply.

I looked at your file and noticed that your linearization tolerance was set to .001 which is much too coarse. Set it to .0001 and set the arc filter to .0005 and you should be fine. Unfortunately Mastercam ships with the .001 default.

 

Maybe you used the addons file from http://www.emastercam.com/patches/x2/ when you did the X2 install and that is the reason you have not come across this with X2

I had to go onto a different part, that one was just a rough prototype for the customer it will be good enough. But I will make those changes and report back when I run another one.
