Mastercam Direct and SW

Can someone tell me what exactly is Mastercam direct used for in SW, benefits and features, in a nut shell?

Mastercam direct allows a SW user to install a utility that allows you to push a part directly from SW into Mastercam. MCDirect will launch a session of MCAM and load the part.

Personally I do not EVER use the feature any longer. It does drop some features that MCAM does not know how to deal with. I prefer to just open the .sldprt from MCAM. If I am doing a complete fixture design in SW, I will export the entire assembly as a parasolid.

J.P., could you direct me to a good SW forum for noobs?

I am unaware of a good one. You can likely find as much help here as anywhere else as there are a fair amount of Solidworks users here.

I would be all for creating a Solidworks sub-forum here, with the coming product I think there may be some upcoming use for such a forum.

Your SW VAR may be a decent resource for some technical help.

Thanks John.

Agreed. I don't see much benefit in being able to just save a few clicks. I prefer to close out all apps when running MC and have most of the needless stuff disabled at the boot also. I thought there might be some kind of simultaneous editing functions across the apps, but wasn't sure. That would be a cool selling point to help loosen up some funds at my place of employment.

I found a ton of sites/forums to get started with, I just didn't want to burden any particular site with a bunch of fundamentals, nor do I want to glog this forum up with SW topics, even though I know most peeps here would help. I do like the idea of having a SW sub-forum here.

Direct Conv. - Mastercam X3 Direct for Solid Works

What this does is if you do not have SW on your same box as your MC.

When in SW you at te MC tool to the listing and when saving the file you save it as a SFB file from SW and now take this file to the box that has MC.

Use the Chook Mastercam Direct it will ask for the file with the extension of SFB.

This will bring the file in and as much of the history as it can without having to have SW on that box.
