Vista X64 and V9

I am sure many are aware but I am certain others will ask, so.......

Over my Christmas shut down, I tried to install and get running V9 in Vista x64. I did not need it but wanted to see if I could get it to run, as I know people WILL ask.

I could NOT get it to run. I tried all of the Hasp Drivers for 64 bit and regardless of what I did try it only put up the "Hasp not found error"

I know some people have gotten it to run in Xp64 but from my attempts in Vista 64 bit, it would not run.

Simply put, give up now

If you're on Vista x64 or XP x64 it's time to move off of V9.

Some people claim they have it running, I don't dispute them but few people have EVER been able to figure out quite why.

64 bit was never and is not now a truly "supported" platform. There is no native x64 bit version, god KNOWS I wish there were.

Has any of you been successful running V9 in any Vista version?

It "runs" in Vista Business 32 bit, I have it installed in the office. I do some trouble shooting for a couple of customers but I WOULD NOT want to program in it everyday. The cursor is hidden at times, it feels "clunky" but I dunno maybe that just because I use X so much.

But yeah it will run in the 32 bit version.

AFAIK no one has anything earlier running on Vista though.

If I understand the sunset program correctly,

V9 is one release away from being an unsupported

version..

I've told this story before.. I worked (very briefly) with a diehard SmartCam guy. He had modern softwares but didn't want to learn them.

The version he was addicted to ran on an old Apple machine. He had a closet full of dead Apples

and spent his weeknds prowling swap meets for parts to keep his machine running.

Such will be the fate of the diehard V9 guys..

V9 barley runs on Vista. This summer Windows 7

will be out... V9 will be a 6 years old version

2 OS's behind.

Long story short.. V9 guys will have to keep an

XP machine running. It won't be as difficult as keeping a 15 year old Apple running, but as time

marches on, it will get harder and harder....

and it will get harder and harder to find a V9 job

Guest CNC Apps Guy 1

I felt bad one day, because I actually laughed at a guy that was still programming in V9 even though he had X3. Well, I felt bad for about a second anyway. Sorry, but there is NO EXCUSE to keep using 9 unless you're hell bent on career obsolescense IMHO.
