2D CORE MILL

I was wondering if anyone has had a problem with 2d core mill not allowing a smoothing option.When I enter a value in the box click the option on,and regenerate the toolpath, it gives an error.If the option is turned of the operation works but hammers the corners when using a larger cutter than the rad.Any info would be appreciated thanks.

I am looking for it now but I am fairly certain in the Help file it states this option isn't available for the 2D HighSpeed paths only the 3D paths

I got a pretty good quasi 2d high speed toolpath today with smoothing turned on. The key is to use the 3d HST core mill and use the steep shallow settings to restrict it to whatever z depth you want.

i use a lot of 2d core mill without any problem , except file size that don't fit in the controller !!!

Why have the smoothing option there if it doesn't work.

I didn't didn't realize the original poster didn't have level 3.

i create a sample part to test smoothing , and it dosen't work

 

i always use trochoidal motion to clear the corners

Depending on the version you are using try adding tolerances under Arc Filter / Tolerances. If you dont have any tolerances entered it will give you an error and wont allow you to run the toolpath.

 

The Profile Tolerance is maximum distance the smoothed toolpath will deviate from the original toolpath (without the smoothing on).

 

The Offset Tolerance is the distance that any other part of the smoothed toolpath will deviate from the original toolpath.

 

Perhaps another issue is that you have these tolerance too small? Try increasing the tolerances after all its a roughing toolpath and you should be leaving material for a finish toolpath.
