It depends entirely on the amnout of material that needs to be removed. Methods I use are similar.

 

X4 actually does some things better on the roughing front than what I'm observing in that video which would result in higher MRR AND longer tool life IMHO. I must say though, that part looks NOTHING like any mold cavity I've ever seen.

 

They should have used

Looks they using on Steel 40 RC about 450 SF and 50 inch feed .

Nothing new here.

What interesting depth of cut. Looks like they go ... 0.5 inch deep overlaping 30-40 %.

For long time I am using insert cutters for roughing .

Just interesting wich mothod is better ?

I think they each have an advantage over the other.

 

SC E/M's are more rigid. Indexable E/M's are basically re-usable and you can flip an edge and have a new E/M.
