Are there alot of you out there that use mastercam for VTL Machining?

VTL as in Vertical Lathe?

 

We use Mastercam to programme our OM Omega 60M Vertical lathe with C axis.

We have 4 twin-spindle Puma V550's, one 42" Bullard, 3 52" Schiess, and 2 50" New Century w/12 station ATC.

 

We program all with Mastercam

 

Controls are all Fanuc

 

I program all "horizontally" in Mastercam though I know the axes can be rotated to program in machine orientation.

 

Just my personal preference...

I program "horizontally" as well. It just looks natural with the tool on the backside. But to have the tool to the left side would look just strange to me. So I keep it simple.

We've got a dozen VTL/mill turns

of various sizes and manufacture.

The smallest turns 40".. the biggest

can go 30 feet..

We program them all in Mastercam X3 MU1

in the vertical postion.. putting the tool

on the left side of the screen.

X3 came out with a new VTL machine def that puts

the tool on the right side which is visually correct.

I've played with it and like it, but our post's

don't output the C axis correctly with this

machine def..I'm sure its fixable, I just haven't

had time to work on it.
