Toolpaths

For some reason my X4 adds extra places for the cutter to plunge........I put in a toolpath for contour of 2 holes and for some reason this stupid program drops the cutter down at the home position and then without pulling the cutter up to clear the part it moves to the FIRST path which always breaks my cutters.

I can write the program and get it to run right and on the second or third part it will ADD a point to drop in on and break my cutter.

What the F is going on with this D program?

Does anyone else have this happen or is it just me?

I am running a basic Fanuc post. Is there something I am missing or is it just Masterscam? mad.gifmad.gif

email me the file.. I'll take a look at it

also

check the Reference Points setting..

They are a submenu of Linking Parameters..

I'll bet money they're active and set to 0,0,0

or

you've got a mix of Absolute and Incremental

depth settings on your Linking Parameter page..

to summarize.. Its not Mastercam wink.gif

I got Mark's file and all 3 of my ideas are wrong.

The only thing I found wrong was "Point ENtry"

and "Point Exit" were selected on the Lead-in/Lead out page and no points were chained..

Maybe Mastercam went looking for its own points

As recieved, the file posted properly

If I may make a suggestion..

Circle Mill is a much easier way to machine those holes.

I added both a helix bore and a circle mill toolpath to your file and sent it back

Personally, I'd run the helix bore..

It gives much nice results than multiplle depth cuts..

One trick to Circle Mill toolpaths..

If you chain a point, you have to tell Mastercam

what size the hole is.

If you switch to "Enities and then pick the

arc, Mastercam uses the arc to define the size..

There's less chance of a mistake and you can machine different sized holes with the same toolpath..

Mark I will not tell you that it did not happen to any one else on the plant. but I know I program with X4 daily and it has not happened to me.

I also know your back round when it comes to mastercam. This is another factor.

But I know Gcode checked your file and said there was know issue. So this time I think there must have been the software.

Now the file you sent to Gcode was the exact file with the issue at hand and you could see it in backplot or only in the code?

Gcode, I did not receive the e-mail

I'll send it again..

make sure Yahoo spam isn't killing my email addy

and..

selecting "point entry, point exit" on the lead in lead out page with out chaining

entry and exit points can lead to trouble.. I think this is probably how you got bit.
