Before doing the translation, had you done something like....

 

Created a drafting note or dimension and placed it by using an AutoCursor 'intersection'?

 

If you then move the note it will remember those entities, so if you move one of the two intersecting entities along with the note, you could get a failure to intersect.

 

Just one possibility, though.

What kind of translation are you doing? Point to point translation?

 

If your 2D/3D switch is set to '2D' you can pick a theoretical intersection of 2 entities at different 'z' heights, but if you are in 3D mode and your entities are at different heights, then you will get that error.

 

You'll also see that same error message if you try and trim 2 entities that exist at different Z heights to their theoretical intersection point, while you are in 3D mode. If you switch to 2D, you will then be able to trim without getting the error.

 

Hope that is your problem and this helps you solve it.
