crashing on save

Using a new install of x4 and updated MR. Every time I save it crashes. I re open and I can save but as soon as I create a new tool path, it does it again, save= crash.

Did a search did not come up with any thing.

Know what could be the matter?

No, it's my long time CAD folder.

...and save works, it just crashes the program.

did you copy your config file from your earlier

install?

if yes.. does the new install have the same folder name has the old install

If you copy a config folder from C:mcamx

and drop it into C:mcamx4 you're going to have all sorts of problems.

Try closing Mastercam, renaming your old config file to something like config_bak

Then restart Mastercam. Since there is no config file, Mastercam will build a new default one.

Just tried a new file. Made a straight line, contour, save...crash. Damn.

I did not copy my config file. But try do that anyway.

Well looks like I did copy my config folder.

This was from mcam x4 to a new install on a new computer.

I renamed my config file _bak but got errors mastercam .mtb not found, .kmg not found etc.

My guess is that you don't have Admin privileges enabled for the Mastercam Installation folder.

I've had problems like this when my Windows permissions were not setup correctly.

You need "Full Control" over the Mastercam installation folder and all sub-folders.

You also need at least Read and Write permission to any location you are saving your MCX files to.

(or attempting to save them to in this case)

Good point Terry. I found that site and read the info, never checked their "fix" program.

I would recommend doing a full virus scan and running something like Ad-aware.

Norton on my box did not pick up anything.

Brand new too.

iddn't dat funny.

I used MC all last eve after I ran that "fix" and everything seems to be working fine.

I have Norton set to not throw up warnings, just get rid of stuff without telling me so maybe that is what happened?

Or...Norton sucks and my (computer) box is now dripping with internet syphilis.

Admin privs. are the cause of half my problems with any software - it's really frustrating. We almost need a default form to give to peoples IT to allow them to have control over their program files if nothing else
