Offset surfaces default

Whenever i offset a surface,the default distance is 1.0,so it creates that surface before the field box appears to enter the distance.

 

I have to wait while it creates a surface then enter the distance i want it to offset.

 

Is there a way i can enter the distance first.

-surface

-offset

-hit enter before selecting surface

-enter the distance to offset & lock it red by clicking the little ruler just to the left of the distance field

-click the second button from the left on the ribbon bar to select your surface

-select surface

-hit enter

 

 

the key is to lock the field red

Is there a way to do something similar in surface fillet?

Keith A-1, I do the steps like you say, I lock the distance red but after I pick my surface and hit enter it's back to 1.00. Any ideas of what I might be doing wrong?

@nhraguy, I just created a new surface in a new file, followed my own instructions step by step, and it worked fine???

Well thanks anyway. Don't know why mine will not stay locked. Oh well.
