Computer Componets for new computers

Hello Members,

 

I am in the process of purchasing some new computers for the secondary machine shop program I teach.

 

I would like some feedback for the componets.

 

Let me know if these are compatiable with mastercam Version 8.1 and Version 9.1.

 

1. Microsoft Windows XP Professional

2. Processor: Intel Pentium 4 processor,

2.8Ghz w/ Hyper-Threading Technology and

800Mhz FSB with 1MB L2 Cache.

3. Chipset: Intel 865G chipset

4. Memory: 1GB PC2700 DDR 333Mhz DDR SDRAM

(2-DIMMS).

5. Hard Drive: 80GB Ultra ATA100 7200rpm

hard drive.

6. Controller Card: Intergated ultra ATA100 and

serial ATA150 controllers.

7. Video: 128MB NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200G with

TV out graphics accelerator.

 

I do not have any knowledge of computer

componets or how they work.

 

I will have cd-rw,dvd-rw and the other standard asseccories.

I would advice you to enlarge ram to 2Gb ,if you R doing serious work .

Other than that looks nice

Video card is too weak. That's the low-end of the GeForceFX series and it's pretty much the equivalent of a GeForce4 MX. A Quadro card should be seriously considered. Otherwise, look for GeForce FX 5700 or 5900 instead of the 5200.

I am limited to $1525.00 total cost based on-

educational cost limits.

 

I am working with gateway educational rep's..

 

I will have to live with the 1GB of ram.

The video card: only opition is:

128MB ATI Radeon 9600G.

 

Any advice!

If you can only choose between the GeForceFX 5200 and the ATI Radeon 9600G and absolutely nothing else, take the GeForce card. Mastercam (V9.x and previous versions) doesn't get along with ATI cards. Refer to this.

I used and use MX seies with Mastercam and have no issues ,yes,this is low-end geforce, butit is ok for me too .

Insist on NVIDIA video cards or no deal!!!

You can get Mastercam and ATI video cards to play together, but in an educational environment with

multiple computers the ATI cards will quickly turn into a nightmare.

You'll find yourself buying NVIDIA cards on your own dime just to stop the pain

That price should get you waht you need. does this have to include a monitor or just the stuff you posted?

Based on the different advice given.

This was the best gateway could provide.

 

I was limited to certain computer models.

Provided by the department of education.
