i have been going thru alot of inserts trying to machine this stuff. i am using a carboloy 2.0 turbo mill.any suggestions on speeds and feeds or different cutters. i started out about 400 sfm and .005 fpt this was out of the carboloy book. the corners are not breaking but appear to be wearing off

If the edge is "Wearing" off, then the carbide grade is too soft for the cutting speed.

 

Go with something more wear resistant.

 

Other suggestions is to drop the spindle speed and increase the feed to .007 or more per tooth. Watch the spindle load though!

 

When in doubt, abuse the "Test Kit" program that tool salesmen have.

Good point on the coolant. The failure mode sounds like the cutting edge may like to have some coolant to flush chips etc...

 

Here is one for you, look at the chips and see if the edges are smooth, or are they ragged and burned looking. Stainless should peel off with a nice shinny side to it. My all time favorite for this would be Iscar's 328 - Old technology but a problem solver.
