  1. Hello All, I've been off this list for awhile but am back programming with Mastercam again! Where I work now, they used Gibbs for about 8 years and have made the change to Mastercam. YES!!!! My problem is that I mave a few thousand legacy NC files that were done in Gibbs, there is very little info as to rev levels etc in the header of the code or what the heck op this file does Sooo... I've downloaded the demo of Predator to see if I can't make some sense of this mess. I have not heard anything back from the Predator folks in a week and a half or so and thought I remembered someone here being a dealer or rep for Predator... Might have been Jay, if memory serves Problem is I need the password to open the demo and install it any help would be appreciated And ...Nice to be back! Jim
  2. Mphass or Mpfan will work nicely with the HAss Mini MIll Minor tweekes to suit your tastes of course Jim
  3. We also have a Swiss machine (Star) that is I believe seven axis. We are also looking for a solution (Mastercam) so the poor operator can stop programming by hand!! Jim
  4. I'm playing with the Acramatic 2100 post I'm not asking for a post!! I AM a little curious though how to force "H" offsets. MI 1 should tell it to output H's as opposed to G92's. and MI3 forces a G28. I have a fourth axis but get no H01 or A value. Could someone shed a little light on this for me so that I may learn a little more about how this thing works? Thanks Jim
  5. quote: chuck one up snap one off ... 98 $40 taps in the box... AHAHAHAHAHAHA Gawd ya got to Love these guys!! I been working on a maifold that goes in a fiber optic cleaning system Cheers Jim
  6. Hi all I'm employed again working in a model shop in Seattle using V7. At least it ain't Gibbs!! We are working with our reseller to upgrade two seats of level 3 and one of entry lathe to V9. I can't wait!! We do a lot of fourth axis stuff on Cincinnati's and I get to clean up a lot of housekeeping issues left from the previous programmer. One question I have is ... We have a Star Micronics swiss machine 7(I think) axis. Does MC have a product for this sort of application??? I've never heard that they did but... Great to be back Jim
  7. 6/12/51 for me... Been machining since the mid 60's though...Farm kid, ya know Jim
  8. Well...Seems I'm looking for a job this afternoon. Boss's daughter got in a tiff, and there ya go Any one know of a shop up here or on the Kitsap penninsula looking for a MC programmer? TIA Jim
  9. Thank you very much.... Worked great Jim
  10. I have V8 level one I'm machining a part from an IGES file....I have the top done and have all the ops from the top half grouped together. To machine the bottom half....(No WCS, V8) how do I get to the bottom of the part?? or do I flip the part? I thought you could machine the whole part from one model. Can ya tell this is the first time I've tried this??? Any help would be appreciated Jim
  11. I also use wear comp almost exclusivly...I interpolate a lot of bores, and may not have room for the comp move if I didn't use wear. I've used as little as .005 for lead in and out lines.... Jim
  12. Jay: I know how you feel, I just found last Thursday that the crew chief on my drag bike has lung cancer and is not expected to live long. It's not an easy thing to go through but it's the memories of good friends that keeps their memories alive Jim

  14. Metacut works well also, as does predator Jim
  15. When I was working on my Engineering degree in the early 70's I got a job to pay schooling costs at Sunstrand in Denver (I went to Univ of Colo) and wound up doing a four year apprenticship in their machine shop. What an eye opener!!!!!!!!!! Jim
  16. quote: Having spent several years both drafting and cutting my own parts, I do NOT draw in the chamfers, edge breaks, and other such features on the control drawing. These items are handled best by notes IMHO. The additional lines tend to confuse me (and I drew them!) when I import them into MC. MC has some very nice functions to handle items like edge breaks and larger chamfers on the top edges. In MC, I do add in the vertical edge breaks in my cutting geometry, but a button to do edge breaks would be nice. I totaly agree....I also draw the vert edge brakes and a button for the others would be killer Jim [ 01-10-2003, 11:44 AM: Message edited by: Jim Whipple ]
  17. Iscar 328 or Walters WMG 40 inserts have worked very well for me at about 140 sfm and .005 to .007 per tooth I cut lots of 6alv4 I've had the same experience as Jack with bare fingers and black markers....Oops! Never had any coolant issued though. At least not with OUR customers HTH Jim
  18. I think what that message is telling you is to manualy jog the machine away from the limit switch... Let us know Jim
  19. Well nothing but bad luck so far.Does anybody think version 9 will help? It's not a Mastercam issue...the problem comes from the file you imported....the Iges out settings need to be tightened up What porgram sent you the files? Jim
  20. quote: but I do know that if your geometry is a spline, MC will make small x y moves instead of arcs. Bingo!!! The filtering , I think, may worsen the problem by making the lines longer. Can you check the output settings on the cad system where the Iguess file came from? That may be the source of your troubles Hope this helps Jim
  21. You're quick Andrew....I was just going to suggest that........ Jim
  22. I just looked at the V8 CD I have at the lathe post list txt file and found nothing that looks like a GN post....Sorry Have you tried your reseller? Jim [ 01-07-2003, 02:36 PM: Message edited by: Jim Whipple ]

  24. It's been my experience with plastic to use HSS and spin the Holy Hoopie out of it with lots on coolant to flush the chips. about .005 chip load ought to put you in the ball park Sometimes you have to slow the feed around delicate sections or reduce the amount of material being taken to avoid breaking the piece I step down .05 to .125 a pass on lots of parts I only have a 6K spindle and it lives there when cutting plastic. Hope this helps Jim
