Rotate part while surfacing the part

I need to rotate my part as I am surfacing for clearance problems. I am on a Kitamura horzintal.

is the part a a radial part? do you need to index here and there are you would like to rotate as is cutting back and forth?

 

Do you have Multi axis add-on?

I havent tried this, but there is a rotary axis option in the surface finish toolpath parameter page. Would axis substution work for your part?

With the geometry sight unseen, it's tough to say that you can or can't. Having a better idea of what you actually need to cut would help greatly.

I am trying to section surfaces and do at different planes like you suggested Shawn.

 

Jay what I was thinking is to start and as it was cutting, rotate my b axis. just don't know how.

5 axis multi surf may be what you're looking for.

if you need the clearance as you are rotating, preparing for the next cut, use the 5 ax multisurf toolpath, on the linking page look for "links between slice". try setting it to "blend spline". this may give you a better result.

 

also, expand linking to see the "clearance area". under the TYPE drop down, toggle thru those opens for which one better suits your part. this option can greatly affect your retract distance.

You may need to set your feed in the control def to output Inverse time feedrate (G93) mode. If your machine has this capability. Almost every machine I have used requires this to make accurate simultaneous 4 axis toolpaths.
