Hi all , I never used a helix lead in for pocketing. Is there a rule of thumb for diameter of tool versus the diameter of helix radius and the depth of one revolution ? using a 1/2 end mill what helix radius to use and depth of one revolution?

Thanks All

3% of tool dia = .015<<<<depth per rev. I hope

for the helix rad. I would put in what it takes to make a .900 dia. circle. (something slightly less than 2Xcutter dia.) if your tool has a corner rad, (2X(cutter dia.- corner rad))

These numbers are HIGHLY dependent on the material.

Make sure your endmill is centercutting...
