Moldplus add on

We have an opportunity to purchase software and I was looking for input as to how people use it.

Are the surface trim, extend features a help. Do you use the parting line separation feature ?

I've used it (not so much in the last year or so but often enough) and the surface tools are phenominal. I mean depending on the complexity of the mold, you can do in minutes with Moldplus that would take at a MINUMUM, hours using traditional methods. Solid Sep is a smokin' feature. The list goes on and on. ONline documentation is solid as well.

Cant see doing molds without this tool. look at electrode maker to. I started using back in V6 and made my life as a mold maker much easier. I use it for mold to fixing surfaces these days..

I watched the video of the 5x, nice feature, they made it look easy.

The 5-axis toolkit is a blast to use for any 5-axis trimming, waterjet, laser etc. It makes Mastercam easier to use with multi-axis systems. The toolpaths themselves don't change, but it creates the geometry automatically that drives the toolpaths. The best part about it, is that it makes good geometry - all drive curves, vector lines etc. so even if you have a messed up IGES (happens to me all the time), you can get good geometry on it. And it's the closest you'll get to graphical toolpath editing right now - just grab a vector and drag it to change an angle, and view how it affects the whole path.. oyu can drag in xyz even. I was on a job a couple weeks ago that would have taken at least three times longer to program - was really excited.

It's made my job easier, Graphical collision checking with asymetrical tool holders is huge.

Was wondering if this could have good value added aplication for us as well. anyone using it in a sheet metal shop. we create a lot of complex lofted-nested sheet metal models along with form tooling needed for it.
