HPGL Post?

Now before anyone gets bent...I am in the process of talking to my reseller on this matter and I was told that these posts were out there and he would look into it. I am doing the same. I was wondering if anyone had such a thing and if they could point me in a direction to getting one that will suit my needs.

RStuart, it's generally the new members that are flamed for doing this sort of thing. The manner in which you ask for advice on posts is key as well.

What controller is that? Machine type? (HMC? VMC? Lathe?) I've never heard of HPGL.

Rekd, it is actually a New Hermes IS400 Engraving machine. It runs sort of like a plotter and I aam trying to get mastercam to push it. Unfortunately I am not having any luck. It (the machine) is supposed to understand code that an HP7475A but unfortunately I can not find a driver for windows 2000 for this printer/plotter.

May be I wrong but I think hpgl is a sort of printer language that many printers can use.

In Linux you can print to file in this format and in Mastercam too .

Rstuart !

On your place I would try to get machine manuals ,

do some RTFM, get some old program open it in Hex editor and compare with hpgl plot file.

Sure there can be some machine-specific stuff , but mostly files must be the same.

And what about Postscript?

You dont need any window driver!

May be you can work with Postscript too ?

It is a standart de facto for tens of years in editing ?

The driver you are looking for is the

HP hpgl/2 plotter. you'll need a serial

cable to interface to your engraver.

Select the windows plotter, and plot to

your engraver. Make sure you select the proper

com port, baud rate, and any other settings the engraver requires. The engraver would be the plotter.

hope this helps

RStuart,

The HPGL language is really quite simple.

The real trick will probably be determing the correct "flavor" of HPGL that your equipment wants to see.

Anyway, have you Dealer contact me.

I believe I could find a Mastercam post that you could try. If I recall,(some) Multicam and Vision Engraving machines use HPGL (or "modfied" HPGL)

Thats great Bullines, except I do not physically have that plotter I just have a machine that reads the same code as that plotter. Again the problem I am running into is that I can not find a driver for this plotter for windows 2000.

If it is HP-GL printer support you are looking for, Windows NT, Windows 2000, and Windows XP Pro all ship with drivers for HP DraftMaster RX/MX and SX as well as the DraftPro Plus. The DraftMaster drivers are lage-format HP-GL, while the DraftPro Plus are small-format HP-GL. While I have never been all that fond of Microsoft's HP-GL drivers, it is possibile that they will work for you.
