  1. Does anyone have a MCX file of the US Navy emblem? The one that has USN over an anchor and chain.
  2. okay, i managed to convert all solids into surfaces, remove the shared surface and then converted all surfaces into on solid. Seems to have worked so far.
  3. the solid bodies are "touching each other", but when I go to extrude a pocket through both of them to a specified depth it onlt cuts one or the other.
  4. is there a way to combine two solid bodies?
  5. When you try and create a swept solid, what does it mean when it says requires planar chain set?
  6. I ended up just creating what i could as solids and what i could as surfaces and changed the solids to surfaces and then all the surfaces to a solid. Might not be the best way, but we will see if i get the desired effect. Thanks a million.
  7. i am trying to create a solid similar to the way that I would create a ruled surface. I basically have two squares that are parallel to each other but at different z depths an are not identical. I am trying to create a solid while maintaining the blend between the two. Solid Sweep?
  8. Going to talk to the customer on Teusday. See if they have a solid model or something. Luckily the customer is in the same town. The part is actually a mold used in glass blocks.

  10. I will try and explain this the best that I can. I have a part that is square. The sides are tapered at 4 degrees, but the corners are tapered at 8.75 degrees. It has a .250R. around the top, but at the corners the radius is .500 on the top. Then it has a conical radius on the side of the corners that is variable from .281 to .438. I have uploaded it to the ftp site under the MC9 file folder labeled plunger. I need this in either a surface or a solid. I am having no luck at all. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  11. It is highly resistant to both heat and alot of chemicals that stainless steels are not. Don't quote me on the heat thing, but we used it in many applications when making filter housings and vessels used in the production of pharmeceuticals. Customers and engineers choose this material due to its longivity before needing to replace. Used alot in aerospace applications i hear also.
  12. lots of experience with drilling hastalloy. just not 5.5 inches deep. was drilling through 1.125" thick plate. i believe we used a drill from ma ford, similiar to the link above. the stuff is just plain hard to do any milling operations. have had much better luck turning. +1000 DavidB....through the spindle coolant is almost more important than the drill you use. if you can't get the chips out.....the drill will weld itself to your part. haven't had much luck step drilling as described above. the carbide drills we used didn't appreciate starting in a predrilled or spotted hole. i think if you slow the feed rate down upon entry you'll be fine though. best of luck. you'll need it.
  13. Question concerning chaining. In the past when I selected chain, partial, wait and started picking the entities I could hit backup when I took a wrong turn. How do you do this in X. If this has been covered I apologize.
  14. We have purchased X but it has yet to arrive. Should be here by next week. As I am playing with the Demo version I am wondering if it is possible if I had a dual monitor set-up if I could have my operations/solids manager in one screen and my geometry in the other.
  15. Hell, we use cell phones at will, smoke and drink (soda pop) at machine and listen to music. And my guys and myself always get our work done.
  16. I did not realize you were refering to Mastercam X, although that is what I have to do in 8 and I believe 9 also, if I remember correctly. Hope X isn't that different. Waiting for the powers that be to sign the PO for X.....can't wait.
  17. choose only a point rather than an arc. Should work then.
  18. I have tried projecting curves onto surfaces and off-setting contours all I can come up with are cycle times that are way too long to achieve a decent surface finish. Thanks alot though.
  19. The outside chain is the plane that is at a constant .69 of a degree. The hub is not at an angle. I do not have the luxury of mill level 3, and they have done this before with level one. i will try the wireframe toolpaths. Unfortunately I can not fixture it any other way due to the fact there are hole that have to go in it for screws that have to be straight.

  21. tried that, didn't work. After looking at the existing part more closly, I see to the far left of the hub the taper is not correct front to back, but is side to side with the taper. Which would be fine if I could reproduce that.
  22. I realize this should be really simple. The problem I am having is I have a plain that is at a .69 degree angle with a hub on the left hand side of it. I need to mill around that hub and try to keep the plain angled around the hub. Of course theoretically this can not be done. Although I happen to have a part here in front of me and judging from the tool marks, the programmer before me, did just that. Unfortunately I do not have the luxury of having the old program or MC8 file. I have tried just about everything. Is it possible? Mill level 1!!! Version 8.1.1.
