Config file on server

Almost all file types have a way to browse and set the location for them...CD, MD, libraries, posts, defaults, etc, except the config file. Is it not possible to put the config on the server? I've found many topics asking about this and the answer seems to be no.

 

I think the new locations for these files in my shared mcam6, all users, whatever really sucks.

I would NOT either. I don't like anything on the server except for a backup copy of everything and .mcx files. I keep everything else local. I would expound but there are quer eyes everywhere today it seems...

I never keep ANY config files on a server... EVER! This is not just limited to MC either. I've had way too many bad experiences with it.

It is good practice to copy your personal configs to a server or another devise for backup purposes.

I definitely agree with Tim. Have been burned in the past not having these files backed up. I've had Config files, Control defs, Opp files and post files reading from the server for years and haven’t had any problems. We have 7 work stations and they are all set up to read these files. Then the server is backed up daily. Reading these posts Im a little worried that some day I could start having issues.
