Multi Axis Help

I'm trying to cut the floor of this part on our Mazak SQT 250MSY.

I'm no mult-axis expert,i've learned by trail and mostly error.

I'm trying to get the floor to clean up with a flat endmill. What i would like the tool to do is, while still staying normal to bottom surface, blend from one wall to the next.

I've attached some screen caps to help expain.

Right now i'm using a multisurface 5 axis path to get the center but it still leaves the corners. I need the tool to offset but still stay normal to the surface

What path should i use to achieve these results?

Thanks!

I made some lines and tried to drive the toolpath with those but i still can't get smooth motion as it rotates over the surface for each pass. in the screencaps you can see my floor is gouged because of the non-smooth transition as it moves over the surface for each pass. I need my tool to stay normal to the surface to avoid gouging the floor. Any more help?

Thanks!

Increase your step over. You are using a flat endmill not going to make smooth unless there is more step over and make sure is is a true flat bottom endmill that has been ground as such. Most flat bottom endmills are not perfectly flat on the bottom. Also your Vector line needs to be normal to the surface you are cutting where the tool is going to be cutting. Your vector is normal at the end, but the tool can not be normal there so you have to think about how you are going to squeeze the tool into what you are trying to cut. You are on the right track dividing the surface into halves and then cutting it that way verses trying to cut it in one tool path. Easiest was is just to rotate that surface to end in the corner of the part you are cutting.

Dang, you should be some kind of supervisor with old school knowledge like that.unworthy.gif

Been there done that for well over 10 years from 6 people to well over a 100 people and trust me programming parts is a lot easier than being a boss.

Just stuff I have picked up from many different places over the years.

Thanks for the help all!

Ya, no one decided to tell me that we were going with a flat bottom on that part instead of round!

Yet again a perfect example of the person doing the actual work not having all the information! LOL

However, i did learn a little more about multiaxis stuff so theres no downside here.

Yet again this place is the shiz!

Hey he has 10 rags and I only 5 rags, hey gets his area mopped everyday and mine is only done every 3 days. He gets to work overtime and I don't. What do you mean I take 5 times and long as everyone else to get the job done why is that problem? What do you mean you want to me to keep my area clean? So what if the buttons are nasty and covered with grease it is my work area.
