Milling M3

Hi All,

I am milling a contour in M3 using a 3/4 cermet endmill and it is taking forever. I am looking for speed, feed, and cutter suggestions.

What does the manufacture of that tool recommend? Looked at Seco, Kennametal, Green Leaf, or others to see what they have for cutting it?

What depth of cut and speeds and feeds are you running it at now? Which tool are you using?

M3 is not something you can blast through lol.

I used to turn M4 at 65 r/c on a manual lathe. That stuff was like glass.

Tell me about it, the 2 toughest materials I ever turned was M7 and M42.. was not fun, but it was about 15 yrs ago.

Not certain offhand how similar, but I have milled M2 Dies, using Seco tools, which cut very, very nicely...

 

They will give you a very good starting place, cutter wise, and Speed / Feed wise...
