Just thought I'd be short and to the point to someone that has abviously not even peeked into the fine "Search" features of this great site.

Jaanvar ! Welcome to the board !

Does mastercam have linux version ?

What for ?

Do your office has Linux workstations ?

You are not satisfied with Windows 2000 Pro?

As a matter of fact I am the Linux addict at home in every pc that I had or have always was some Linux flame .

Also I am a big fan of various OS emmulations Like Atary,Amiga ,Macintosh ,etc.

Never emulation will be 100 free of bugs .

Wine is emulation .

It worth to run some little funny wingames under linux and I use it for this a lot .

I `ve seen the demo of Mastercam under VMware,

And 99 sure that Wine will not work .

But who matters ?

And who wants Mastercam under Linux , may be someone wants it under Mac ?

The main trend now is Windows so will be Mastercam.

When the main trend became Linux, Mac OSX,O/S2,

Beos 5 or God knows what else CNC software will port it to that OS.

Linux is not a reality , it is a sweet dream !

It has it`s place as a server base or a pc for an advanced Unix skilled user but can be a pain in the @$$ for the common Unix unskilled user .

And has not many Cad -Cam software ported !

Iskander teh penguin fan .

Thanks for all of you, I was just curious about Linux version because sometimes Windows gets viruses, security holes problems, patches from microsoft also sometimes create bugs. I also dont use much Linux and most of the time work on Windows, I saw mastercam at my friend's computer, I sometimes go there and use it, and while creating drawings, windows gets hang and everything losts.

Once again Thanks. I have some questions which I am going to post now.

Speaking about Linnux you can use there Qcad -

rather nice 2d Cad , supports DXF.

It is in Mandrake install, if I remember right and can be easily installled from scratch if you download it from internet.

And don`t think that Linux is unvulnerable .

You must configure your security related things if you are in the internet under it !

Linux is a good think to learn .

As an example of Linux might here is a simple task:

Suppose you have a cdrom disk with avi file.

Cdrom is dammaged ,but you can see a film from it.

But you can not copy it to the hard disk . frown.gif

how can you copy it under windows to the file of the same size disregarding the bad cdrom places ?

In linux in even minimalistic edition (3.5`` disket) I can do it with dd command ! cheers.gif

PS . personally done it it works like charm!

Iskander s!z Penguin is worth to have !
