I'd be sending that pile of junk back.. If you can't hold tolerance now, when it's new

you'll never be able to machine good parts in a couple of years.

It sound like you'll be lucky if you can keep it running 10 hrs a week

That is pretty normal on a C-Axis only lathe (the witness line). You can minimize it but you can never fully get rid of the sight of it. It's related to axis reversal and the timing between a rotary and linear axis. You shoudl be able to cut it and only see the line. If it's tuned properly, you'll see it but not feel it.

 

Question, is that mark where you lead in/out on the hex? Something I will usually do is start on a corner instead of in the middle. Again, it won't completely get rid of it, it will minimize it though.
