Crash!?! in pockets

V.8.1 I'm milling a pocket using depth cuts, and leaving stock on the walls and floors. The tool roughs out the first depth of the pocket, and as it goes to the next depth level, it moves in rapid instead of the plunge feed. The mat'l is graphite so I'm just plunging instead of ramping or helix. Am I just leaving something out or is it required to ramp or helix?

For process of elimination only::

Make the clearance plain higher that the stock.

Make the top of the stock the top of the part.

make sure that the z depth is lower than the top of the part.

Set every thing to absolute.

don't check use clearance only at the start and end of operation.

no rapid retract.

On last page. use zig zig,the step overs, and rough angle,and nothing else,,,It will work.

Then play with ituntil you get what you want.

specprogrammer,

Use Scott Bond's advice for programming the pocket. The part about "using clearance only at the start and end of the operation" isn't available in V8, only V9. You should at least update your V8.1 to V8.1.1, which was the last point release for V8 and it contained some bug fixes that may fix your problem. Jay (aka CadCam) asked if you could share the file. Allowing the file to be read by others on the forum is a great way to get more specific technical help because then others would have your file to look at in Mastercam and may see something that you've overlooked. Some companies are proprietary with their files so if that's the case simply say you can't release the file and then it won't be asked for again. The Incremental Feed plane value allows the tool to rapid from the Clearance until just above the previous depth of cut, by whatever positive value you've placed in that field. If the Feed plane value is 0.0 it will rapid right to the current depth of cut or below it, eek.gif for negative values. HTH biggrin.gif
