4 axis mill screw

Hi ,

Learning 4 axis /multi axis tool path .

How to approach to this kind of parts (picture attached)? What tool path will be best for it ?

Stock - round bar 2.5 inch

Big dia 2.4 inch

Small dia 1.2 inch

Machine 4 axis VMC

you can use Axis substitution and create wire for the profile and unroll it. then you can use contour with depth cuts. this is just one way to do it.

I know it ,but what about fillets on bottom of the blade . Is it posible program this as surface machining ? Is it posible to use pillmill tolpath for for it e t c ?Thank you

To do it with peel mill you would do like Jay said get the 2D wireframe from the unrolled and then do axis sub to make the 2D toolpath cut in this operation.

1) the load on the tool

2) what tool to use - with a radius or not

3)I really want to learn how to do them with one tooth

I have done both with good results really comes down to how you want to control the process. With what you did will always be on center with Multiaxis you then get the control of leading edge as part of the process. The load on the tool like you did will be I think good since you have a nice step over and using a bull endmill. Key will be center cutting ability of the tool. I Always try use a Radius tool helps with tool life. You are well on your way to learning how to use them. Next trick would be taking that same toolpath and using convert to 5 axis and then using toolaxis control to allow for the place where you want contact, but then next issue is not getting the backside to hit your part where trial and error comes in to get it all set up correctly.
