Raptor workholding

I have a silly question about setting up a doevtail fixture on a trunnion. Do I need to indicate this when I set it up on the platter? I dont see anything to make sure it is parallel to the x axis but maybe its not necessary?

Yes you do. You still need it straight and know its physical location.

If you make your mounting piece correctly it all should fall into place.

ok cool. I guess I'll mill a dovetail into a 6" long block so that 2 faces are parallel to the dovetail feature and indicate those faces o nice I mount it on the raptor.

Like Ron said, if you properly utilize the locating features on the bottom of the raptor, you will never have to indicate it in.

 

If you don't use the locating spud, you need to make sure it's sitting within a few thou to center of rotation also

is it cost effective to build your own? Perhaps with quick release clamps so you can remove these from a tombstone or trunion table on a vmc?

I usually just throw it up on there, indicate/probe X and Y position put the error in WSEC "x" and "y", then for C-Axis rotation error put that error value in "c" offset; NOT "C". There's a difference. Use it if you've got it I always say.

 

Never indicate anything if you don't have to.

I've ordered an RWP-202 baseplate and RWP-02, 3/4" dovetail. The 202 mounts to the platter with a boss that locates it. Then there are 6 screws that fasten it. So it's in the center of the platter but with play in the coungerbores I'M thinking it won't be perfect?

Work Piece Setup Error Correction. You program the part at x0.y0. but it REALLY lies at X.005y.1 The control compensates for the actual. It will do this with the rotaries also if the machine has the ability.

Work Setting Error Correction. It's like Dynamic Fixture Offset but TRULY dynamic. DFO is for 3+2. WSEC is for 3+2 PLUS FULL 5-Axis. :
