CPU Keeps on Running

So, I posted this over on the new Mastercam Forum... I've learned that so far, not a lot of responses happen for me over there.

Just thought I'd repost this here to see what you guys think.

Re:

I have software to monitor my CPU for activity and temperature.

When I start up X8 the CPU settles back to zero activity... then I process a toolpath and of course the CPU spikes on all cores... but then, it never settles back to zero... even though I am not crunching any numbers and there is no activity... the CPU is still running... even spiking up to 70-90%.

If I shut Mastercam down... the cores go back to idle at 0%.

The reason this bothers me, is that I have been having heat problems with this computer... already lost a harddrive and a graphics card... I believe it is a temperature problem inside the case... I have a new CPU heatsink ordered.

Question... why does Mastercam keep the CPU running like this?

Thanks.

I've used both types on 2 different rigs that I've built. Never had an issue.

Me personally, I wouldn't mess with the thermal compound that comes on the heatsink already.

CPU's will heat up FAST! (pretty much instantly) so you'll know if the heatsink and compound isn't attached right.
