Used seat of mastercam ?

What's the policy on buying a second hand seat of Mastercam. i.e. can the licence just be changed to our company ?

 

Have the opportunity to buy lathe at a reduced price from a customer that doesn't use it .

That violates the EULA. Mastercam is NOT transferrable. Even if purchased at auction it's not transferrable. Of course the software police are not going to come after you but  you will be unable to update it past the maintenance expiration. Not a wise investment IMHO.

Actually, I don't think that is entirely true (unless they have changed the EULA, in which case I'll shut the **** up).

 

I actually did an installation with a company that purchased a seat of Mastercam that had it transferred from one company to another. It was legitimate, at least via the reseller. Actually in the same town as MrFish too...

 

Technically, the current owner of the software can't sell it, but it was handled through some kind of "software license transfer".

The license would then need to be transferred to the new owner IIRC. Depending on how long the seat has been expired, it could cost every bit as much as a new seat.

Actually, the case I stated was, if I recall, a transfer as a result of one business buying another.

 

Although, I recall another case of a company selling its CNC lathe, and the seat of Mastercam was transferred as well.

 

Maybe different dealers have different rules

From what I recall there's a transfer fee.  Best bet is to talk to your reseller first.
