Mastercam MT

We're looking at the Mill-turn add on for a potential machine purchase. DMG Mori NTX1000SZM. What are your likes and dislikes about this product compared to other software and products from CNC software?

What we're looking to potentially do is replace a 2 axis turning center and VMC with this for doing SMALL (1-50) lot volume parts of moderate complexity. We must be able to have the same amount of programming time or less than what it takes now to produce the desired program. Works fairly seemlessly now as the current machines are relatively simple. My worries come with the added complexity of the machine for our particular use.

What do you say?

The MT product has a lot of the same function and abilities as other Mastercam products when it comes to tool pathing. From there it changes to create a Mill/Turn environment. The layout page is meant to drive the user in the thought process of thinking Mill/Turn. What is your process and what is you method for the work? Then from there you decide where you are going to hold it in the Left Spindle and then if transferred what are you doing there. The transfer process is worked out and here again what are you doing. That would have been established at the layout process. Now you do all the work on the right spindle. If you are getting a machine with a lower turret then you can decide if you are going to park the turrets or if you are going to do balance or pinch turning then you work all of that out. Now you post the code and go into code expert. From here you work out wait cods if you need them and then simulate the program. Once done you post the code and should be done.

Just make sure you got a good post, the rest of it is not that hard.

The post is part of the MT package. It is a machining environment developed around the machine. The toolpaths still don't take kinematics and such into play when making them, but you get full sync control and simulation of NCI for the machine the MT has been built for. Machine not built for the yes you need a good post and a verification package when using traditional Mastercam Lathe with the Mill add on.
