Nesting option

I am looking into getting the nesting option and before i get the boss to sigh the check i want to know if it is worth it or not. We are a waterjet company and thats all. we could do hundreds of the same part or hundreds of different parts on the same sheet. How good is it at nesting different parts over mutiple sheets of stock? what about same part many times on same sheet?

Thanks for all of your input.

I tried the nesting for a little while with a demo SIM and wasn't too pleased. Even Jimmy from Barefoot CNC couldn't sell me on it when he was here... We were able to more efficiently nest things manually. I suppose it depends on the size/type of items you're making.. We were trying to nest long arched pieces of plywood as an example and ended up doing it manually..

HTH.. and I'm not trying to bash anything.. MC has made my job so much easier!

In ripper's case it did not apply. (If I had given him the "pitch" he'd bought. Just ask all them eskimoes with the air conditioners. tongue.gif )

But like he said, if you are doing alot of smallers parts and odd shapes it makes sense. If your daily production is dictated by yesterdays orders (or even today's) it makes since.

Combined with the new ATP script nesting can allow you to program daily production on the fly.
