  1. Just got the boss man to spring for a new PC. Solidbox T3500, Quad Core, win 7 pro 64 bit. Unfortunately we're still back in X3 MU1. When I try to use the create new folder button or do the same through right clicking, mastercam freezes. It appears to go into a loop, creating infinite # of new folders in whatever directory I'm in. I have to kill mastercam via task manager. The faster I kill it, the less folders it makes. This only occurs on the network drive, not in local directories. To my surprise, I haven't found any kind of solution by googling or searching forums. I've already tried changing the File dialog style in the MCAMX Control Panel Applet and that hasn't worked. Sure, I can just create the folder through windows explorer, but that is going to take quite a few 's before I remember to do it every time. Any suggestions?
  2. Hey Jay, I'm here on Oahu. If you wanna see our little operation you're welcome to swing by. Don't know how long you're here and we're closed next mon/tues. Sorry I didn't catch your post yesterday. I emailed you my ph #'s. I met you at the Vegas show last year, you may remember. Rick
  3. we have a 9800 pro in our other mastercam pc. set hardware acceleration to zero and you should be all set. It still acts funny at times, but is 98% workable.
  4. I'm on vacation till wednesday so I hope things are going well back at the shop. We'll see on wednesday.
  5. Real nice meeting you Jay. Thanks for the demo.
  6. Jimmy, That's already on my to-do list, geeterhead.
  7. It's not just memory, it's all system resources.. CPU, GPU temps all climb way up with my MC9 open while creating geo. when I open a dialog box like op mgr or whatever else, the temps drop back down. can frustrate the hell out of a laptop user who's fan speeds are triggered by CPU/GPU temps... fan speeds are cycling between high/low/off all damn day long. I look forward to this changing in X.
  8. The Dell M70 is a smokin machine for Mastercam. It's only downfall is the 15.4 wide screen. But the QuadroFX card is supposed to be great. I use a Dell XPS2 with a nvidia 6800 Ultra, and the card is great for games but not for mastercam. I wasn't aware of the M70 at the time of purchase, but probably would have gone with the XPS2 at the time anyway for the 17" screen. In hindsight a M70 with an external monitor for the work desk would have been the best choice for me.
  9. George, maybe I'm dense. I'm pretty sure danfec is talking about cutting square pockets square, for door hinges or door latches. You're telling me I can cut a square inside corner with a 1/2" endmill by using engraving? I'm feeling dumb..
  10. Anybody have a good source for tiny wood cutting bits? I haven't had much luck. George, I'm not following what you mean when you say it will trig out the corners for you. Ripper teh 'where's my square endmill'
  11. Bullines, agreed on the heat. I don't know if boss will like me continually burning up the notebook while playing doom 3 on it at home. Dell has that notebook XPS 3.4 EE too. I'm sure it's even hotter. Is there a big difference on toolpath calculations on the P4 w/ HT vs the M CPU?
  12. Also, it looks like HP dropped nvidia on their zd8000's (I'm assuming these are just the 2005 zd7000's, as I can't find the zd7000's at hp.com.
  13. the Dell's that still have nvidias don't have the processor we're looking for. I must thank trevor for the recommendation on the alienware notebook. Surprisingly the cost difference between alienware desktops and notebooks is not a huge jump like it is with a dell. Unfortunately they don't have that comprehensive plan like dell does for the notebook being destroyed in a fire, dropped, etc. That plan is worth it to our boss, he already bit the big one after our sales guy accidentally ran over his company laptop. (lean laptop carrying case against tire, open door, forget about computer, backup, crunch) And I guess the answer to my question re: X and ATI cards is either "no we haven't tested X with ATI cards yet" or "yes we have tested X with the ATI cards and you don't want to go there". Some light as to which answer it is would be great. If X is going to be out in 3-6 months, just "sticking with nvidia" for a new computer that's going to last 3+ yrs here doesn't seem like good logic to me. There's always the workaround to run MC by turning down hardware acceleration. I have to do it anyway cuz this desktop has a radeon 9500 in it. unless of course ati still isn't gonna play nice with MC, or vice versa.
  14. I've seen this topic addressed by Bullines and Jack back in October. At the time, there hadn't been much testing of the ATI cards with MC X. So I'm wondering, now 4 months later, if anybody has been testing MC X with these infamously not-MC-friendly ATI cards. I'd be curious to hear if the problems are mostly resolved with MC X as Bullines was supposing that the X experience with nvidia and ATI would be comparable. Jack, did you end up getting another XPS in december like you had talked about? If so, is MC 9.1 on it still plagued with the same problems as your previous XPS? (thinking maybe by some miracle something changed on a newer ATI card, doubtful tho) No ATI flaming in this thread. We all know that they don't play nice with MC 9. I wouldn't bother asking the questions except that we're looking to get a Dell XPS notebook and they still only come with ATI Mobility Radeons.
