Coolant Driven Spindles

Hello All,

     I've been asked to research the pros and cons of adding a coolant driven mill spindle on one of our lathes. Does anyone here use these? The first question I had is are they reliable  or does coolant dissolve everything? 

Any advise is welcome.

What kind of Spindle? Right Angle head or High Speed option? Must make sure you run a Micro Filtration for the coolant if you are going to coolant drive it. Can do without it, but expect it to tear up very quickly.

Would the High pressure coolant system filtration be adequate?

Depends on what micron your current filter has.

The mfg of the spindles might have a recommended micron that is allowable.

Should be as long as it meets the Spindles requirements.

Thanks for the input. Any advise as to brands that are reliable? Are they powerful enough for milling with a .25 endmill?

We have some EL tool units running 24-6 without issue.
