  1. Has anyone ever tried running Mastercam on a VMWare Windows 2000 session? VMWare is a product for Linux that will 'boot' Windows sessions, running Windows in a window! I've seen it work, and I'm impressed. Thanks for your input. D
  2. I think Version 4 was the first version written in C. ------------------ Dave Eno Auburn Vacuum Forming Co., Inc. [email protected]
  3. Back to the original question, if all else fails, you can always do the following to round to the nearest .005 mm: 1. Set decimal precision to 3 places. I think 2 is the default for metric. 2. Multiply: x * 1000. 3. Add .5 4. Divide by 1000. I think you can do this in the post. ------------------ Dave Eno Auburn Vacuum Forming Co., Inc. [email protected]
  4. Does anyone know the tools that were used to make the post language? Maybe Lex and Yacc? Did you know that Mastercam was once written in Pascal? I think it was Turbo Pascal. ------------------ Dave Eno Auburn Vacuum Forming Co., Inc. [email protected]

I've been running Mastercam on Windows 2000 since Win2K was a month or so old. I've had no problems. ------------------ Dave Eno Auburn Vacuum Forming Co., Inc. [email protected]
  6. I've never seen a book on 5-axis techniques in general. We have three Thermwood 5-axis CNC routers. Since there are several different styles of 5-axis machines, techniques vary a lot. I have several years of experience with Thermwoods and 5-axis post processors. If your CNC router configuration is basically the same as Thermwood's, I might be able to answer some questions if you have any specific ones. Good Luck. 7. I've been using Mastercam since 1986. At the time, I was running version 3.12 on a 286. I still have the computer. I use it as a foot rest mostly. In the late 80's, I did inhouse trainings of Mastercam. Since 1992, I've worked for AVF. We currently use V8 to design and program thermoforming tools as well as program our 5-axis Thermwoods. ------------------ Dave Eno Auburn Vacuum Forming Co., Inc. [email protected]
  8. I've been using Mastercam since 1986. I was running version 3.12 (?) on a 286. I've still got the old computer. I use it as a foot rest, mostly. I used to do inhouse Mastercam training in NY in the late 80's. I've worked for AVF since 1992. We're a thermoforming company. We use Mastercam for designing and writing programs for our molds, as well as writing our 5-axis programs for our Thermwoods. ------------------ Dave Eno Auburn Vacuum Forming Co., Inc. 9. On some controllers (like ours) the tool change position is set in the control. How do you set tool change position in your programs (if you do)? ------------------ Dave Eno Auburn Vacuum Forming Co., Inc. [email protected]
  10. Hello. The lite version of CIMCO Edit that comes with Mastercam works very well for us. Before it was available, we used the other one that was provided with Mastercam. (I can see the screen, but I can't remember what it was called. Someone in this forum can probably help out.) CIMCO Edit is better in my opinion. Good luck.
  11. Does anyone use a Voodoo3 3000 (32M Video RAM) with Mastercam? If so, does it work well? Any problem? Thanks for you input. ------------------ Dave Eno Auburn Vacuum Forming Co., Inc. [email protected]
  12. Does anyone know the trick to getting tapered mills to display properly in Verify? ------------------ Dave Eno Auburn Vacuum Forming Co., Inc. [email protected]
  13. Are you cutting this on a 3 or 5-axis machine? For 3-axis, it sounds like I'd create a surface and create the toolpaths using Flowline. If it's a 5-axis swarf, I'd probably use the old style Ruled toolpath, and select '5-axis swarf' from the parameter page. Good Luck. ------------------ Dave E.
  14. In my experience, the performance of Mastercam is about the same for either OS. However, I've found that Win2K is more stable. And I would suspect that support for NT4 will be discontinued in the next year or so. (Any comments? I could be wrong.) Mastercam for Linux would be nice.... ------------------ Dave E.
  15. We're replacing one of our CAD/CAM workstations. Will dual processors be a benefit to Mastercam? The new PC will be running Win2K Pro. Thanks in advance for your input. ------------------ Dave E.
