  1. +1 to Crazy, you really need .625 shank toolholders right?
  2. Within a thou, just a matter of preference, most shops I have worked in use right hand but I have often used left hand stuff, easier to see and so on. If the setup is correct (feed-speed-coolant flow and aiming) gravity doesn't make much of a difference. M04 threading isn't a problem, as with M03 the insert has to enter the mtl at some point and doesn't do it all at once. With the lathe you describe (4500rpm 950 ipm) this will be a very light fast and repeatable machine and, given enough distance to let the machine stabilize feedrate either way works just fine. I personally check right hand tooling inserts with a fingernail to check for anomolies and that can be done either way and that only comes into play when setting up a new part or comming on shift (you already have planned tool life insert changes). I have to agree with crazy millman (can't believe I just said that) tell the new guy GET ON BOARD!! I must dissagree with g-code quote: Another reason to not go the G04 route the main reason to not go the G04 route is, you won't get anything done (g04 will only dwell and we have enough of that already)
  3. Thanks Bryan, that did the trick. We have X, the problem is that when a former programer left, his stuff was in X and the old timer here struggled and eventually had to rewrite many of the X programs back to 9. Just by necessity, he hasn't picked up x with the needed speed due to work load. He has mentioned the desire to move forward but I can witness that he doesn't have time currently.
  4. John, that's pretty much what I had in mind. Better to learn when not under fire, the wife will just have to entertain herself for a while!
  5. I have your point John. Like I said, I will endeavor to learn the first thing about post mods. The posts arent really that different from one another but under fire we don't have a lot of time for learning. The very reason for subscribing to this forum. Many great ladies and gentlemen here and hundreds if not thousands of years of combined experience. I will identify what anomolies mpmaster is outputting and try to ask a few focused questions in the very near future. Again Thanks
  6. cobra95kev, I feel you, eight years in gibbscam (and virtual gibbs) then on to 9.1 then x then mr1-mr2 now back to 9.1, wtf. All in a days work, the man wants a green suit turn on the green light right? doyleg, this is about what I was thinking, John or Ron or Kannon, do you know where this could be dropped into the post I have so I can get the benefits without getting too much attention? again thanks all
  7. You are very right. Will the company go for it, they been around for 38+ years and I can hear it already. It's been working up to now! I am only on my 4th day here. I have a hard time though understanding why a programer will open a posted program and spend time "fat fingering" it when the post is what needs the attention. Like I said, I better learn at least the first thing about modifying one.
  8. been there done that Curt. It doesn't exist. This post if from 92, thats right 1992
  9. That may be the wise choice. Thanks for all the advice!
  10. There is something missing, the whole tool comment section. No wonder it doesn't work. Looks like I better learn at least the first thing about modifying posts. We are currently hand writing the tool comment and it gets old after one of two program changes.
  11. I do get the tool name output however the other stuff that makes the old post work for that machine is gone. I hate to start all over again and would like to modify the old post to include the tool name.
  12. you're right, I am very happy I did. Now what do I do with it to help solve the problem. At this point you must realize I am almost totally ignorant in the ways of modifying posts. Thanks
  13. Hi all, New job new post problems. Is there any way to post with the tool name after the dia? This is what I want: code: (TOOL T1 =6.45 DIA. FACE MILL) (-------------------------------) G90 G0 G54 X19.225 Y-7.775 G43 H1 Z2. M08 S2000 M3 Z.5 This is what I get: code: (TOOL T1 =6.45 DIA.) (-------------------------------) G90 G0 G54 X19.225 Y-7.775 G43 H1 Z2. M08 S2000 M3 Z.5$ Thanks if advance
  14. +1 to Bryan, also if you opt not to jumper (null modem) the CNC may issue an alarm that the rs232 cable is unplugged.
  15. Thanks crazy but I have tried all of the above. I don't know why I can't get on the ftp site but that is apparently where the direct link the search you refer to takes me and it still errors out after about 20 minutes. Thanks
  16. I seem to be having a problem getting on the FTP site, does anyone have a copy of holeaxis.dll for MCX that they can mail me? Thanks in advance
  17. I'm with Iskander. We have a Haas VF3 with a trunion (compound rotary axis a and that is 3+ years old, been cutting 4140 @ RC42 approx as the primary part and we liked it so much that we just took delivery of 2 additional identical machines two weeks ago and everyone is happy (even mama).
  18. Is the eye candy you refer to in XP or Vista, still on 2000 pro!!
  19. quote: I think forum rules prohibit discussion regarding resellers. And just when I was about to really start kissing a$$ to MLC-CAD also. Guess that means I absolutely cannot say anything about George Simmons Brian Johnson Jeff White or Carmen Discoe either! Oops hope this doesn't count as a post.
  20. Hi all, does anyone have experience with pro-e files in X? Does it import or export these files ok. Thanks in advance
  21. quote: I forgot he's BUSY putting up shelves. Think Lafayette didn't short out when that word got to them? I know it's bad but you have to take the shots when they present them-self's
  22. Nut, it definately is a maintenance problem according to the error dialog I get and my resellers word. Lou I didn't try the zip2go. I have the entire mcx directory on a shared drive on the lan but you know I have to set up premadonna's box and I would rather not have to do it longhand. I really thought there was a utility to do this very thing. My reseller say'd grab the mcam.config and put it in place of the new one but that had no effect. I will do it longhand if needed but I have some time to research it so here we go
  23. Corporate just hasn't paid the piper as of yet. I was told the po was cut yesterday but thats like the check is in the mail and I won't c@$ in your mouth right? Actually I hear 11 or a close facsimile is ready for release. Hmmm new pooter new version? Thought christmas was still a couple of months away? Must have been a good boy.
  24. Hi all, I know this subject has been covered but I can't find it. I am installing mr1 on a new workstation and want to migrate my configuration files to the new box. Can someone that has done this take a couple of minutes and share. Thanks in advance
