  1. I broke them at the point where the 2 surfaces meet. Yeah, MC crashed a couple times on me while doing it. Was this file originally created in an earlier version of MC? I've seen some crashes on my files brought in from earlier versions
  2. I tried to send it, but now my mail isn't working. I did similar to Fred, but I broke the spline into 2 pieces, then had to convert the problem area into lines using "break many" to get it to work for me.
  3. By chance, did you move the start point of the tool path? If the spline is not closed, when you selected the spline, it would still pick up the whole spline if it was otherwise in one piece. Then, if you moved the start point of the tool path, it would only cut from the new start point to the break.
  4. I can't tell just looking at the pic, other than to look for a break in the spline, which I'm guessing you've already done. I would be glad to take a look if you haven't solved it yet.
  5. Murray, Jeremy will probably correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Adex is in Greer (just outside of Greenville). It's a nice area, not far from my old stomping grounds. Wish I could give the job a serious look, but being a wood/REN router guy with no metal experience would probably not fit their needs.
  6. haroldm, I think I've got it, but couldn't upload it to the FTP, so you've got mail. edit; no I don't have it. The profiles aren't matching up. [ 03-10-2009, 10:39 AM: Message edited by: [email protected]. ]
  7. Dave, sorry it took so long, been in a meeting w/the boss. Our 5 ax is a single head. As for the control, I have very little to compare with. The Osai is all I've used, except some limited experience with a Haas control on a CNC lathe. Overall, I like it. It's easy to use and understand.
  8. Router guy here. We primarily trim vacuum formed ABS and acrylic capped plastic parts with our machine, but I get to do some stuff in MDF and REN occasionally.
  9. Slow?? Any slower and we'll be stopped! Laid off 3 more this week, down to about 1/2 the work force of summer 2007. There are some signs of a slight up turn if we can hang on until spring.
  10. Ran the benchmark again, using X3 MU1. My computer is the same as the first try on 5-29-07. Then, the time and specs were: quote: 14 min 56 sec HP/Compaq d530CMT P4 2.4 GHz Win XP Pro sp2 1 gb RAM Today, with X3, the time was 10 min, 59 sec.
  11. quote: That's my shop. We're getting busy again now, but the owners are entirely closed to improving things. The guys that care have stopped caring about trying to improve the overall shop. We just do our job and hope that's enough. We're very slow, but the rest of your comment describes the company where I work very well, except maybe for the few of us that really care, haven't stopped caring, we're just very frustrated at the company's unwillingness to make improvements. The job situation in our area isn't very good, so getting a better job would likely involve relocation, which has not been an option for me, but now with the kids all grown and out of the house, I'm giving serious thought to the possibility.
  12. I cut .220 ABS using a single "O" flute 1/4" cutting tool. Ramp entry, and feeds are typically in the 150 - 200 ipm range, 12,000 - 15,000 RPM. We sometimes run one job behind another, so I'm holding the newer part over grooves cut by the previous part, which is ok most of the time if they're larger parts. If the parts start moving around on me, I'll resurface the spoil board. If your spoil board is clean and smooth and it still tries to move around, use tabs.
  13. At the end of the install, I got an error message: "1904.ModuleE:Windowssystem32Flexcell.ocx failed to register." X3 seems to function ok so far, but I'm curious if this is something that may cause issues that I haven't seen yet?
  14. I'm getting some strange stuff on the X3 install. It installed in McamX3, but also created a new "mcamx" directory and installed a few folders such as "common" and "art" and a couple of other folders in there. When I tried to open X3 I got a warning, "could not find ...common/font0.fnt" and would not open. So out of curiosity I moved the files that were created in the "mcamx" directory to the McamX3 directory, then tried to re-open X3. It opened ok with a couple of errors in the .mtb file, which I purged. It seems to function ok so far, except that when I tried to post, it only posted to 4 decimal places. In X2 I post to 6 decimal places. I didn't make any changes to the post processor. Also, at the end of the install I got a "failure to register" on a windows system 32 file, Flexcell.ocx. I'm thinking maybe I got a corrupted download? [ 08-11-2008, 11:27 AM: Message edited by: [email protected]. ]
  15. Try All Star link edit: if you don't see what you want on the website, give them a call.
  16. We're a small plastics shop, with one 5 axis router. Like Mike say, there's a good number of router users here and lots of help available. Welcome to the forum
  17. Using the link from the other thread works fine here.
  18. Michael, We do trimming of plastic parts here, and we pour cast all our holding fixtures using the formed part to cast from. We use Repro 83 from Freeman Supply, brace the formed part, and block out large segments of the area to be cast, leaving anywhere from 1/2" to as much as 2 inches for the Repro. By keeping the casting material thinner, heat and shrinkage are minimal. HTH
  19. quote: when i choose the option for "points/lines" it never gives me the chance to pick any line geometry..only points and then it takes me back to the main window If you've drawn axis control lines with the starting end point at the drill point, when you select the point using points/lines Mastercam will automatically select the line you've drawn. Just make sure that the line you've drawn is the ONLY line touching the drill point.
