  1. Yes .AI file Adobe Illistrated will come directly into MCX.
  2. How be darn a .AI comes right into Mastercam. Thanks
  3. Nice web site, but how do we convert these Adobe Illustrator files. What does it take to get. software that will read Adobe Illustrator. Is their any freeware?
  4. Uncoated carbide same size , teeth etc should be able to run 3 times as fast as HSS. I would still be concerned for you. EDM wire or electrod still may be the way to go. No its not cheap. But a .030 x .150 deep slot is not a easy thing 400 times per part. If a designer designed such a costly design they are going to have to pay. Otherwise the deisgner for this company should be looking at machining praticalness. If this is a air slot 3/32 wide .150 would be a piece of cake. Even 1/16 wide .150 deep wouldn't scare me " I'd have to check into cutters". It being A2 I assume it may get heat treated. So I would look at using a 1/16 or 3/32 Carbide ball endmill and use a contour ramp tool path stepping down .005 - .010 increments and going like hell. The ball because of Heat treat cracking issues. Otherwise EDM. Please let us know what becomes of this. GOOD LUCK
  5. I can't see how they could be gone for good. Did the files withen each of the 2 folders also have the same name? If not, they must be on your computer somewhere. Do a search of a name of a file which was lost. You can use * and ? as wild cards. Example gear12?.mcx or *.mcx or gear123.* ? replaces one character only. * replaces the hole name. Also look in recyle bin. Maybe mastercam still has a backup copy or autosave for you if you have it set up. Also we should all do daily backups. Just what you wanted to hear right now. I assume it's to late now , but their is a undo move selection under edit. Next time immediatly try this.
  6. You got a problem their 400 slots 1 inch in length and a HSS cutter in A2 steel. Not good at all, hope your only doing 1 part. Otherwise you need a new method. Could this be set up on edge and wired ? HSS in A2 would be around 50 sfm. chip load .0003 - .0006. 60 teeth you say 2.250 dia. cutter. Thats 84 RPM at 2.5 ipm with your lead in and lead out length it is going to take you 400 minutes of machining for 1 pass alone. You take 3-4 passes and your talking 1200 -1600 minutes or 20 - 26 hours. No way your cutter going to hold up. 400 slots is your main problem.
  7. Hitting ALT seems to only underline temporarily, is thier a way to make it maintain this?
  8. On going contact will also require monthly blood tests.
  9. Warning: On a import of operations which include surface parallel paths you will also loose your step over distance that you initially had. Just got a bad reminder. Now that this happened I can remember once way back when I lost my step down amount "Depth Cut" on a 2d contour. Bottom line on a Import of operation's go thru every operation and check all the values once again. Till mastercam fixes this.
  10. Looks like a possiblity, I looked at my config. and I already had it checked. I searched for what exactly this does and found the following. Quote: Check this box to use tools already in the tool list that match tools required by an imported operation without asking the operator. Clear this box to always ask the operator first.
  11. Sounds like a good method for those who use tool numbers in sequential order. Unfortunatly mine are not, are shop tool pods are assigned a particular tool type.
  12. Dantheman you may be on to something their. I never saw the "disable duplicate tooling" selection before. If I would have ,I would of thought it meant duplicate tool #, not tool dia. If any one sees a method to keep this defaulted with a check, please let me know. Can't think of a reason why mastercam would even put this here. It now appears to import operations with the correct tools assigned for each operation. The only problem now may appear to be what mattstang70 shared. That is if you open up your tool operation your length offset and dia offset will not be correct, it shows "0". When your at this postion if you click the tool it will reset this value. Ideally we shouldn't have to do this or even open this page. We should only have to select new geometery and regenerate without ever opening the operation. Hey were halfway their.
  13. Mattstang thanks, you are absolutley correct my height offset and tool dia. offsets were wrong. Appears as though opening the operation and clicking the tool required resets them correctly. That said, importing operations is very high risk. Which is a shame. Thanks Again
  14. Frequently I have parts that are similar. Not a mirror, but only similar. The tools and operation required to do the parts may be the same or very close. I program one complete. I then bring up my new file for my second part. To makes things quicker I right click the operations manager and select "Import" to import operations from my first part. I then only need to select geometry. Tools and depths are already their. Here is the problem. If I have two tools the same dia. it uses the first tool used for both operations. Example if operation #1 T5 is a 1.000 Rougher and operation #2 T10 is a 1.000 Finisher. When you import the operations, operation #2 will T5 a 1.000 Rougher rather then T10 1.000 finisher like it should be. It appears this happens because the dia. are the same and mastercam import is using the first one for all operations with that dia.. Does anyone have a solution? I relize you can go in and select the correct tool. But it can be easy to over look and you expect it to be right in the first place.
  15. Probably not, I know the feeling. I'm missing several of my favorite quirks from v9 also. Take 1 1/2 steps forward and 1 step back. Guess we will just have to live with it. We get new quirks in MCX, but lose some old ones from v9.
  16. Only 6 holes, I wouldn't bother getting hold of a reamer then taking the risk. We bore 2 inches deep 1/2 dia. all the time in various matls. Good bore head, with a good bar.
  17. Yes Colin is correct, that is my experience also. This can be dangerous for shops trying to use it.
  18. Slydman you are correct 1) click on screen/unblank entities 2) select the entity that you want 3) right-click on attribute tab (lower right of the screen) 4) a dialog box will open and you will be able to change the entities from the level 5) open the new level unblank and delete the entities Looks like this is the best option we have now beings how MCX took away are availabilty to delete enities from the unblank mode. Every new release of Mastercam, they take 1 1/2 steps forward but take one step backward. I still miss my anyalize surface curvature, break line midpoint,"R" key to remove leader lines etc. Sure their are work arounds but I see no reason to take these and others away.
  19. Slydman I to have noticed that my print outs of hidden lines on MCX look alot like a solid line. In ver 9 it was just fine. I assumed this was something mastercam changed and I was just going to have to live with it. Much like mastercam changing the number 1 which now looks like a 7.
  20. Yes I had my head up my @#$@. That wasn't the correct question. I I do know what a containment is. I really wanted to know if I need to select anything special for a bullnose cutter then I do a ballnose cutter. Such as in the tip comp selection. I am guessing the software will take care it.
  21. When you do a 3d surface profile with a bull nose cutter what selection does a person need in the tool parameter page. Tool Containment should it be "Inside" , "Center" or "Outside". I know with a Ball nose we use Center.
  22. Jim I agree I havn't been able to delete blanked enities in Mcx like I did in V9. In V9 you could go to unblank mode screen, select and delete enities before you actually unblanked them into your main screen geometery. In Mcx I can select them, but can't get them deleted. Not untill they are totally unblanked into my main geometery.
  23. I see it now, should have looked a little more before I typed. How long have we had this capability? The solid which results from the surfaces, are we able to cut, extrude and modify?
  24. cascadeclimbr you stated "create solids from surfaces," Is mastercam capible of doing this? I know we can create surfaces from solids. If so how? I need to know.
  25. Mig are you aware you can import your tools from V9 into Mcx. It appears you are recreating them again? Under File tab is a Import directory in this you will find the ability to import Ver 9 tools.
