  1. I'm not saying that 70rc can't be cut. I just haven't seen many tools that the corners would hold up to such an incredibly high SFM. THis guy was talking like this was happening everywhere and was now the norm. Like I said, he is a software driver with no machining experience, thats the kind of person I start doubting the validity of their statements
  2. I just had this new guy who has been programming for 15+ years, but has never run a machine, tell me that people are cutting still at 70 rockwell with a 1/2" carb end mill running 20,000 rpm. I am old school and 20,000 rpm on a 1/2 inch cutter is over 2500 sfm. Have I been in the dark for so long that this is truly happening? also he stated that this was done in roughing operations, high speed light cut (.05 depth). Am I an old fool or is he talking sh*t
  3. I use a logitech invisible optic cordless mouse and have no problems. didn't even load the drivers, just plug and went to work...
  4. and previous view. I am using X2 and I want to be able to use F2 for previous view instead of unzoom .8. I thought I saw instructions on how to do this but I can't seem to locate that information. I know you can change it in key mapping, but I would rather just have the F keys work like ver 9
  5. I ran into the same problem. I was told by Bryan Johnson (MLC) that your curve needs to be projected onto a surfaceso that the tool will check behind as well as in front. I had to create a couple of surfaces and then project the contour on to the surface and then cut the projected contour as a 3d contour. worked perfectly. I want to say that I was using Ver. 9 at the time so MCX may have a shorter way to get to where you want to be HTH
  6. create curve project is what I used in V9, how do I do it in MCX
  7. quote: Double sided tape has gone by the wayside in our shop. We use this Wafer Grip John, We have a 5' X 12' router and forever are cutting thermoform tools that easily cover 95% of the table. As you would expect I have to machine one side flat before fliping and cutting surf geo. I have tried many things to try and just let the part sit in a normal state, push clamps always seem to pull down on the part and when I release the clamp that corner or side raises up and I'm back to a non flat piece of material. I am very interested in the Wafer Grip. Is it expensive and if it is how do you think it would work if I just put in 4 or 6 places just ot keep the part from moving around the table while facing at 350 IPM @ 9500 RPM. email me [email protected] with any info you might have that would persuade my boss to give this a try. Thanks Terry
  8. How do I get rid of all the little dots, it looks like they are the cntr point of arcs or endpoints of blanked or deleted entities
  9. The reach was my biggest gripe. I would've changed the keys but I'm still in right click heaven........lol
  10. JP, Thank yuou so much, that has been a pain in the rear. I like to draw in "full screen", just wanted a shorter way to clear the op man and bring it back only when I needed it. Thanks a Million, you are my new best friend..........lol Terry
  11. Dear Guru's How can I make truning the operation manager a right mouse click show or no show option Thanks, Terry
  12. recreate your geometry. when tool pathing just try a finish cut until the tool is doing what you want, then add dth of cut. check lead in and out to be sure they are what you want. The tool should follow the geometry
  13. go to job setup and turn on peck, coolant etc
  14. My bad, I put the parasolid file up. I just put the MCXMR2 file (OML-TRIM.mcx) try it now.
  15. Machinist are a dying breed, And you can blame it on, and I hate to say this but CNC's. Step on this, put the part here, let off the foot switch, close the door and push the green button, if anything goes wrong go find the setup man. Fortunately I spent 6 yrs on manual machines before I ever pushed a cycle start button in 1981. We just let a guy go who said that he'd been machining for 5 yrs, I gave him a little alum. job something not too difficult. An hour or so later I go to check on him and he is running a 1/2 inch carbide endmill at 400 rpm (manual mill) and just barely cranking the handle. I asked him what he was doing and he replied "whipping this part out for you right quick". I told him if he wanted to "whip it out right quick" he should crank the RPM up to 2500 or 3000 and crank the handle amost as fast as he could turn it, or yea and cut from the opposite direction, climb milling is great for CNC but a manual will get away from you if the table locks are not snugged down a bit. Anyway like I said, he used to work for us. "Machinist the dying breed" I made up a little test that I give applicants, starts with decimal equivilent, then general G and M codes, WCS and machine setup. Its a test that if you know anything its a breeze, if you don't you won't get passed the first 5 questions
  16. link Anyone care to make a suggestion for cutting this part. material is 6061 alum. stock size 15 x 15 x 4.00 thk. I can't decide whether to run the back side first or cut the top, make a little vacuum fixture from renshape and epoxy the part to the fixture and finish out the back side. The tail on this thing drops down to about 1/8 wide and I know that after all that material is removed no telling what will happen when th part is removed from the fixture.......
  17. Of Course it would be some kind of simple sh*t
  18. got to settings>customize> select the toolbar from the drop down menu on the right side, just scan thru until you find what you are looking for. You will run across some other cool stuff too
  19. I have had this problem before and can't remember what Idid to correct it. I add a center drill and chamfer op to a drill and tap routine but the new ops aren't posting.
  20. Shift Z, I will take my tweaked out post, and you do your cut and paste and I promise you I will have programmed at least 3 to your 1 and that is being extremely conservative. Please do yourself a favor spend sometime and get your posts dialed in and make the rest of your programming career a walk in the park. It sounds like you are only doing 2 axis or very simple 3 axis stuff. If that is the case even then you will save yourself much time in the editor. Good luck
  21. Have a 19" here, been looking at 24" if I can get the boss to pop for it. Found som for around $650 + shipping. is that a good deal or just average?
