  1. Ocean +10000 probably would have done better than flowline. flowline just had les parameters to deal with, offset directions and all that. Just trying to make it easy for the guy........good suggestion though
  2. John Paul, LOL man have I done that a few times. Now I am somewhat O.C.D. about saving my modified post files, a few with different names, ext's....I mean I lost one that I literally could not get a copy of for a Deckel mill, it worked GREAT and all I could get was about 80% of what I had.. I cried everytime I had to make manual mods to everyfreakin program. Drill cycles were really wierd, As I remember "Z" had nothing to do with the depth or peck. That was about 16 years ago when I first started in MC programming Live and LEarn
  3. Millman, That is really strange. The haas posts have always worked great for me practically with no modifications. You might try grabbing the post right off the cd and give it a whirl. Good Luck Buddy
  4. I have been in this guys shoes before........hot job, no idea how to fix problem and no one to turn to........it sucks to be (a) a newbie ( newbie in a serious bind with a delivery date © no idea about what he needs to do and no idea how to do it. If he were to provide some verification that he is licensed user it might go a long way in here, what do you guys think:)
  5. Weyland Is the G8/G9 modal. Is that required at the (on) beginning of tool sequence and (off) at the end of the tool sequence. If you are not sure, I would think that it needs to be turned on and off with each tool that requires it. Drill canned cycles probably don't need it. I used to program a Kitamura Horz That required the high speed machining on and off. this is also known as corner rounding. There may be a way to force it on and off with a "*" in the correct place. the post guys will and can definitely get you going on this, unfortunately you may have to wait until monday when they all come back to work. Good Luck
  6. Mcamnut, you are right on target. I have used the other function before but it tends to go overboard. I just didn't understand why the tool path is like little arcs that are chained together and what purpose that served We have a little haas tool room mill that will decrease the feed it the spindle load gets to a preset level, I thought that was a pretty cool little funtion.
  7. Have you tried making the default of WCS off in your settings. I'm sure you have but just incase you haven't
  8. why the small arcs and what purpose does that type of toolpath serve. Unfortunately I am oldschool and highspeed machining is just cranking up the feed and speed when 2D cutting, and pretty much the same for 3D. Please help an old dog learn a new trick
  9. not "at"..........."with". grey hair does it to me all the time....now, what was I doing??????
  10. Unless I am missing something why not just contour the O.D. while clamping in I.D., then contour or pocket I.D. while clamping O.D. Machine the part just as its shown. I don't see the problem here. Like I said Unless I'm missing something this is a 2D part.
  11. LMAO @ MLS is it Nine or is it Ten......hey that could be a song.........lol
  12. I saw an ad of pretty much the same scope in the Dallas morning news a couple of months ago and the company stated it would pay a competitive salary of $14.75 an hour. If I'm lying, I'm dying. I knew this was a good deal for somebody, I just couldn't figure out who, The hiree who would be getting ripped off, or the company who would be ripping off the hiree........lol
  13. Fly, that is the "O G" way....lol, from when Mastercam was DOS based (Ver 4.11). I didn't get "models" most of the time. And seldom any wireframe geometry, Unless it was an extrememly complex tool. The majority of the time any surfaces that were cut, were surfaces that I had created from a print. Back then You had to know how to create all the surfaces, when to use them, when to use what is called now "wireframe toolpaths", and which ones to use and where. A lot of times trimmed toolpaths were the only way you cut cut a surface without gouging an already cut wall. Today's mastercam is a GOD SEND compare to the way things used to be. Back then you really had to be on the ball or you would be gouging the crap out of your part. There was no "verify" just backplot and you really had to study your backplot because Mastercam would gouge the part at the drop of a hat. If I didn't know, there is no way you could make me believe that Mastercam 4.11 and MCX came from the same software company. Life is definitely better these days........lol
  14. I am making 62.5k yr in Dallas, Tx and that is a bit more than what most make here. I bring 30yrs of maching background to the table, 20 of that in CNC environment, 15 of that MC programming, 8 of that as shop supervisor/programmer/20 other hats..........lol. I would like to make more but I work a forty hour week so I'm not bitching. I moved from Shreveport, La. 8 years ago where I was making the max of a whopping $17 hour. When I moved to Dallas my rate of pay went from 34k a yr to 45k without having to work overtime. I told exwife (who is a legal secretary) if you don't quit f*cking me out of my visitation and using the kids to cause me heartache I would move to dallas. that was 8 years ago, my youngest son (15 yrs old) now lives with me. Its really funny, when I took the power of her being able to f*ck with me by being in another state, she became almost instantly nice, she no longer had every other weekend off, she would gladly meet me in Tyler, Tx. to exchange the kids. Funny how me moving to Dallas worked out for me all the way around.......I also told her "see Annie, what goes around , comes around".......ain't life grand
  15. Flycut, create a ruled surface and use a flowline and I believe that will fix your problem. the reason for creating a ruled surface is flowline works best (or has for me) on a single surface. Flowline steps over same amount whether on flat or angle, where par steps in x and y and contour steps in z, or use parallel with 45 degree cut angle and zig-zag
  16. quote: Unfortunately there is no Stock recognition witht the milling toolpaths. If you really need to cut them down you can trim the toolpaths +10000 I use trimmed toolpath quite a bit when ever I am cutting odd shapes or shapes that create a lot of "air cuts".
  17. quote: I am not in favor of increasing to 4 passes. I would like to see you do it in 2 or preferably 1. Taking 4 passes will take 4 times as long to complete this part and cause 4 times as much tool wear.I second this. I can't ever remember not going full depth on any slot lest than .375 with .062 thick saw. remember that getting ahead with HSS saw is cut once, your saw dia. is fairly small so rigidity is not an issue. Just go for it. hss surface footage is 40 to 60. run on high end and you will be just fine or do like Mr. Bana says and use cbide. Good Luck
  18. I am in a bit of a hurry and don't have time to go throught the manual to find the default library for tool paths. where is that at in MCX..........please
  19. quote: On going contact will also require monthly blood tests. Geez.....I'm already diabetic and REALLY tired of needles.............does the fun never end
  20. I have one more question for "Bala". Where do you buy and how much is a U81B4U82 lead center. This is basi machine shop 101
  21. My company has the opportunity to take on a great deal of work that is made entirely of lead. I was just talking to the owner about this project and one of his major concerns is the health issue involved. Lead poisioning is a serious deal and I personally have no interest in contracting it. So is anyone has had any dealings with machining lead or is machining lead I would be grateful for any information that could be provided. You guys have always come through and I hope that it will be the same for this question.
  22. quote: quote: everything in x takes longer to do than it did in 9 quote: .........its probably just me thoughlike I said, its just my opinion.......and we all know about opinions and how they smell.....lol
  23. are you ramping into cut, if so use long ramp length. this will put less load on the back side of the cutter. straight plunge is not what I would do
  24. WildPair, I just started using MCX about 10 days ago. Once you learn the icons you've got it made. It took me about 4 days of constant use to really start making some time. I'm not sure why, but it just seems like you have to go through more steps to do things in MCX.........its probably just me though
  25. man I feel like a dumb*ss........geezzz. I now see it on the "select all" menu
