  1. is there a setting somewhere that will allow you to turn off the active layer in X5? thanks
  2. gouge check was it. just upgraded to X5 yesterday - that's new to me. Just out of curiousity, what does it think it is gouging? Why do you not need gouge check on contouring the outside with leads? Many thanks.
  3. I did a search for this and didn't find anything . . i'm running X5 MU1. In trying to contour the inside of a deformed circle, i can't get lead in / out moves to work. the tool only plunges. if i switch sides, and contour the outside, the arcs appear. the circle is easily large enough to accommodate the needed arcs for the leads. have i missed something easy here? thanks
  4. Cool, thanks. i have the wheels in motion for X5 already so hopefully that will take care of it.
  5. thanks. i'm running some other CAD programs that are only 32 bit and haven't experienced any problem. Rhino for example installed in a separate Program Files (x86) folder. I was also reading on a recent post that X5 also is not a 64 bit application. So what does that mean for day to day operating? . . . expect some problems until the programs become current with 64? Do you have any recommendations on how to proceed. thanks again
  6. I'm running X2 MR2SP1. I just upgraded my system to Windows 7, 64 bit and now my High Speed Rough Toolpaths almost always crash Mastercam if i go back in and try to change a parameter. Is there an inherent problem that anyone knows about with this? thanks
  7. we have a 5 axis Onsrud also with a 60 x 96 bed and have been very happy with it. the control is user friendly and support has been excellent. MasterCam post was provided with the machine.
  8. i'm still using X2 so maybe this exists? in the lead in/out 2D contour window rather than a 'Length' and 'Ramp Height' window; how about a 'Ramp Angle' and 'Ramp Height' and it calculate the necessary length? this would be pretty handy for non-plunging tools.
  9. Robodrill was mentioned to me in a different thread - i'm looking into them. unfortunately, now we are under a time crunch to make a decision or loose the opportunity entirely. trying to get the Robodrill info on par with the others.
  10. thanks for the help. i liked mazak but they don't make a machine small enough to shoe horn in the space. the two we are considering made the primary list because of their size. Although it has what is called a 'WinMax Control' the Hurco will almost post from the generic Fanuc post in mastercam (required a few lines of editing). Would that imply that there is a Fanuc Control in there with a different face?
  11. yeah . . . i thought i might be referencing two different things. as may be evident - i am out of familiar water. Specifically, in comparing these two machines. I have a 2000 blocks per second (Milltronics) vs 600 block look ahead (Hurco) - which as i am reading things is an apples and oranges comparison. IN GENERAL, i am wondering what type of numbers i should be looking for in a machine if most of my parts will be complex surfacing toolpaths . . . OR if this is even relevant to the issue of surface quality and / or program run times.
  12. we are looking at Hurco's VM10 and Milltronics RW15. The space for the machine footprint is very limited - which is how we focused on these two.
  13. We are in process for buying a new VMC and i am looking at some numbers that i need some help with. Where would a '600 block look ahead' fall when comparing it to an array of VMC machines? Is this an area in general that I should be concerned about? i have the idea - perhaps incorrectly - that this is a bottleneck area which may effect surface quality. Most of what we do is surface machining and quality finish is important. Are there some machine specs that I should concentrate on in evaluating a machine's ability for surface machining? Thanks for any insight.
  14. well, you'd be running yours A LOT harder than ours. how long have you been dealing with them?
  15. would definitely be 3D contouring. how do you guys like the machine? has it been reliable? any comments or complaints? if we do get one keith, the offer of help is appreciated.
  16. to anyone out there programming for a Hurco machine for three axis work - are you using the mastercam generic Fanuc post? if so, did it require modification to post correctly? if not, what are you using? we are looking at a VM-10 and are trying to spot any hurdles before we trip on them. thanks
  17. just upgraded my space pilot for the space pilot pro. love the extra buttons, but the navigation seems to be a bit less fluid than the old one. best way i can think to describe it would be to say if the dominant axis had a slider bar it would be partially active . . . maybe 10 or 15%. anyone notice this?
  18. any reason why sometimes when i go to the view manager and click on a plane the icon showing the plane orientation doesn't appear? when it doesn't work it doesn't work for any plane. thanks
  19. ohhh, but thanks for the info gcode. i wasn't aware of that window.
  20. it looks like to me that the matrix information gives three coordinate points which appear to define the plane in question - but you would have to do the math yourself to get the angle. i ended up running that part of the program and pulled the numbers off the controller.
  21. if you have created Cplanes with some unique numbers by using rotating planes (but didn't write the rotation numbers down) is there somewhere in Mastercam to find them? i don't see any such display in the view manager. thanks
  22. where can i set MC to look for my customized key mapping file when first opening? i'm thinking of upgrading from going to key mapping every morning and opening my custom file. i don't see anywhere in the settings / configurations / file window. where else? thanks k
  23. that is funny . . . 'i see dumb people' i've saved that one for future use. i can't wait to send it to someone. i imagine i won't have to wait long.
  24. yes i meant level - accidentally used rhino terminology - i would like to simply select a level and obliterate it as if it, its name, and anything on that level never existed. i don't want to have to go and delete everything on that level first and make sure that the # of entities is zero. strabe - so it is now just select level, delete? everything is gone?
