  1. Thanks for the info. Sounds like the ID grinding is the best way to go. Anyone recomend a shop in the N CA area?
  2. I’m not a lathe guy, but we are working on a part right now 4130 that has a .998 thru bore 6” long and need to hold a tolerance of +/-.00015 in a production environment. Is this possible and if so, what kind of tooling would you recommend? Thanks, Damian
  3. Maybe your problem is much more complex than i think it is. we use a very simple formula. D wear can change from feature to feature due to tool pressure so we adjust it locally as well as the Z for blends. G10 for work offset ( get us close ) probe to set work offset then all D and H numbers are the variable of the tool in the spindle ( makes it easy to edit tool numbers and you never have to edit the D or H, just the T) for all special tools all D and H wear adjustments are done local in the program per operation or per tool. 4. Thanks. http://www.ktoolinc.com/k-tool_doc_036.htm have you run this one or similar in 1045?
  5. Thank you. AB is is only about 30 min from us. Agreed..... great cutters.
  6. Anyone have a good suggestion for an inserted dovetail and chamfer mill 45 deg. I have a job that is 1045 steel and is slightly hard around the edges due to the laser cut profile. The application is to debur a sprocket on top and btm in one operation. .750 to 1” dia should be fine. Total travel is apprx 34” and part qty is 385. Thanks, Damian
  7. I have run cells as small as 2 Horizontals with 20 pallets up to 6 makino A55’s hooked up to 148 pallets. In 15 years I saw the RGV go down once. I think it’s safe to say that’s pure luck, but when it did go offline we were able to use the overhead crane to load pallets just fine. I know it’s a large investment, but when you leave work on a Friday and come in on a Monday to see the machines still running its very impressive. Obtaining 80 hours per spindle of lights out unattended work per week can really pay off. The down side is….it sucks to debur, inspect and load all the pallets back up every morning. The most successful owners I have ever worked for took the noah’s ark approach and had two of everything. If you have two of each pallet you run get thru short runs very quick. If the RGV still cant keep up and your loosing run time, you can always load thru the door.
  8. I think I heard you say your HZ had 50 or 60 tool’s. If that’s the case, go with the second machine with a large tool magazine 120 min 200 would be nice. Then in the future that will be your production machine and the one with the small tool capacity can be your setup / R&D mill that feeds the pallet pool and other machine.
  9. From what I remember Dmis is the industry standard and several company make their own version like (PC-DMIS) We use PC DMIS and Hexagon is our reseller. We have it on out CMM’s and on a few of our 4 and 5 axis mills for on machine inspection. I would stay as far away from PC-DMIS and Hexagon as I could. Terrible support and very expensive $$$$$$$$$$$$$$
  10. I Have used this for the last 15 years on Fanuc and Haas. It can be used with a probe or stand alone. I wouldnt use one WCS unless its full 4th work. basically you pick up G54 xyz and adjust the macro var to G55, G56, G57 ect angles. the macro writes the positions in the background and its fully adj for XYZ inc shifts so you can really dial in blends adn true pos. contact your local machine reller for more info. I belive Hennry Larier from selway in union city wrote this version. (****G10 INFORMATION START****) G90 M98 P9002 G10 L2 P1 X-4. Y-4.5475 Z6. A0. G65 P9018 A54. B-41.559 C55. G65 P9018 A54. B80. 11. all the machines i have ran use one vaiable for the tool in the spindal. pre call tools do not matter in this case.
  12. Start by creating a 9### program Add in your safe tool change information like: G0 G91 G28 Z0 G0 G90 G53 X### Y### ( safe tool change position ) we use x-39.0 y18.5 on our vf-6 ( directly over the touch probe ) Any other code you want M99 Next assign the 9### program an open variable ( we use M106 ) Then replace your m6 in your programs with M106 All tool changes will be safe.
  13. It works great when you have the corect aplication. the key is having the tool vector away from wall during retracts to prevent the insert from getting damaged. this would be a great option for MC to look into.
  14. "cali" is a big state. I have no idea what cost of living in socal might be, but that kind of money goes a long way in my neck of the woods. 20 mile drive from the country to work. no traffic so it takes under 20 min door to door.
  15. I have to agree! It’s a rarity that I even launch mastercam these days, but still frequent emastercam for tons of great info. The nx forum is quiet, but you usually get an answer in about an hour or so. Vericut usually takes a day or so to get a reply. I do feel there tech support is much better than anything I have seen in the past.
  16. uninstalled the old one which worked fine on R19, downloaded and installed the one from mastercam download site and still no luck. anyone else have a catia translator i can send a test file to. i dont need it converted, just see if it opens? thanks Damain
  17. we have a catia tranlator installed with x5 our desigh dept just went to R20. now we cant open files. does anyone know what problem might be? Damian
  18. Thanks to everyone who responded. We have found someone. Damian
  19. We are looking for a contract programmer to help out with our back log. You would have to be on site ( sacramento ca) for the programming of certain parts, un-classified parts could be done off site The pay is hourly or you can quote the jobs one at a time( contact me for specifics) hours are flexible Must have your own seat of mastercam, nx or catia if programming off site Parts will range from aluminum to carbon fiber 3-4 axis For more details please send me a PM Thanks, Damian
  20. the walls only have a 1 deg taper so i think im out of luck with a tapered shank end mill. the same customer had me try this a few jobs ago and we ended up with a few broken endmills and a lot of hand work. as always, thanks for the help.
  21. Any mold makers out there have any experiance with a .125 ball endmill projected 3.500? feed, speed, stepover ect would be helpful. the material is alum and im only finishing leftover stock from some deep walls with 1 deg of draft and .045 c/r. Thanks, Damian
