  1. Just upgraded to V9 (Yee-haw!) and I still have a problem with the IGES import default settings. I have "Send errors to file" set as the default when importing IGES files, but it still defaults to "Send errors to screen." After I change it, it stays as long as MC is open. If I close and re-open MC, it's back to Screen. Is there a setting somewhere other than Screen/Configure/Files/Converters that is overridding this? Can someone else try this and see if they get the same thing? I couldn't get it to stay in V8 or 9. Thad
  2. I believe you just change the extension and then compress it. I remember seeing step by step instructions in the help file (in v8, that is.) To compress it, go to NC utils/def tools (or ops), then compress. Thad
  3. Jay, I'm using WinNT and I'm not sure how to access the video card info on NT. I couldn't find a device manager like with other Winblows OS. Thad
  4. I agree. That's why I don't want to take the time to put in the information if that's all it's used for. Thad
  5. Mark, I've been very concious of this with all tasks. Keeping the mouse pointer off the grapic display area makes a HUGE difference in processing time. Thanks for the tip! Thad
  6. In the parameters page when defining a tool, the cutting speed, feed per tooth, number of flutes, rough and finish XYZ stepover...are these values only used if you allow MC to calculate the speed/feed for you? I'm thinking that if I assign a speed and feed for the tool, and then using the roughing/finishing pages to define by stepovers, I don't even have to enter the information above when setting up a new tool. Does anyone see a problem with this? Thad
  7. It's usually in the graphic window because I just clicked the arc to mask. That's interesting though. If I'm using the mouse to click the menu, then you're right, because the mouse isn't in the graphic window at that time. I'll make a mental note of that. Thanks Mark. Thad
  8. I have got in the habit of using the letter selection for some common tasks. One of them, when selecting holes, is AA for Add points, mAsk on arc, and then AAD for All Arcs, Done. I've been using these letter combinations for weeks now and for some reason, I clicked on them this time instead of using the keyboard. I was amazed at how fast the arcs were selected when using the mouse as opposed to using the keyboard! When using the letters, you can see MC highlight all the arcs in the file...like it's thinking, which can take 2-3 seconds with a larger file. When using the mouse, it is almost instant. Is this just a quirk on my machine or does this happen to anyone else? I only do 2D programming and you would probably have to try it on a file with a lot of holes (100 or more?) to see the difference. Thad [ 07-29-2002, 10:54 AM: Message edited by: thad ]

  10. Thanks guys. This looks like some good information. Thad
  11. If I was milling multiple pockets in a single operation, and in between 2 of the pockets I needed a higher Z clearance move, but I didn't during the other pockets...is this something that I could change by editing the NCI file before posting? I've right clicked on the NCI icon in the Ops Manager and the Toolpath Editor came up, but I'm not exactly sure how to use it. Thank you for any input. Thad
  12. quote: The ability to toggle between "step" and "run" while backplotting. Smit and Michael Reynolds, Both methods work great, but I prefer Michael's method. I don't have to take my hand off the mouse. Thanks guys! Thad
  13. The ability to toggle between "step" and "run" while backplotting. Thad P.S. V9 hasn't come in for us yet and I don't remember from school if it could be done in V9.
  14. Roger, Line 944 says "n" like it should. In the PST files, there is no line 76 and line 400 has nothing after the "?". This goes for both posts. Thad
  15. Anyone know how to change this permanantly? Thad

  17. I've personally never used one, but it's not "one or the other" like your thread title implies. The space ball is used in conjunction with the mouse. Sorry if I read too much into it. Thad
  18. quote: Goto Screen, configure, NC Settings tab, uncheck "Reset post on file get" That's what I meant by "Screen/Configure." I just didn't feel like typing out the whole path. Also, I have "Send errors to file" set as the default when importing IGES files, but it still defaults to "Send errors to screen." After I change it, it stays as long as MC is open. If I close and re-open MC, it's back to Screen. What's up with that? Thad

You're welcome, guys. I'm just glad I can return the favor. Thad

A survey was done and they found that 65% of adults could not do fractions. A whopping 65%! WOW, that's almost 1/3. But look, there's only 3 kind of people in this world...those that can count and those that can't. Thad
  22. Every time I open a file, MC defaults back to my default post processor. I have 2 posts for the 2 different machines. In Screen/Configure, I have unchecked "Reset post to default on File/Get" but it still does it anyway. Is there another setting somewhere that I should be using? Thad

quote: You can enter on a perpendicular line and you will cut the entire part if you turn on the overlap parameter in the lead in/ lead out page. I always use the overlap...but why would it not cut the entire chain without it. Wouldn't the exact start point be the exact end point, thus cutting the whole chain? Thad
